Vaakevandring Will Release A New Album | The Norwegian Legend Returns
Vaakevandring is undoubtedly one of the greatest legends of Norwegian Black Metal, and one of the most obscure projects, in the sense that they haven’t released much stuff. Just a demo, a track on a split, and an EP released in 2004—which we’ve kept in our archives. The band existed until 2007, when they played their final show at the “Endtime Fest.” The only news since then was a performance by the band at the wedding of Pål, the band’s drummer, in 2014. Since then, finishing a full-length album has remained a pending task—something Vaakevandring never accomplished, although even back then, there was talk of completing what was left.

Well, it seems the time has come, and as announced by the label Nordic Mission, Vaakevandring will release “Amen,” their first official album, no later than this year. The only details known so far are that the album’s recording is complete and that it includes new versions of the tracks from their 1998–1999 demo. For now, those are the only details available.
For those who may not know, Vaakevandring means “Night Walk” in English. The band was formed in the late ’90s, and its lineup has included Pål Dæhlen and Morten Sigmund Magerøy—who are also known for their work with Antestor and Frosthardr— as well as Trond Bjørnstad (ex-Antestor) and Ronny Hansen (Grave Declaration, Luteøks, Antestor, etc.), among others. It remains a mystery who participated in this new Vaakevandring recording. Surely, as the days go by, we’ll have more details.
The band only managed to release a demo and an excellent EP in 2004, featuring just four songs—essentially that old demo with one additional track as a bonus—all presented in beautiful packaging and an excellent release. It can be categorized as atmospheric black metal, as this style is commonly referred to. The truth is that the EP had already caught our attention back then, and it’s highly recommended for anyone who wants to delve into the extreme and dark atmosphere of Vaakevandring. Black metal, forests, contemplation, atmospheric instrumentation, and everything else you can imagine coming from cold, enigmatic Norway—that’s what Vaakevandring is all about.

“Amen” will be the Norwegians’ first full-length album. Set to be released this year, it’s already one of the most highly anticipated albums of 2026. We’ve included Nordic Mission’s social media links below so you can stay tuned for any announcements and check out what they have available—they’re undoubtedly one of the best labels in the Christian metal scene. Don’t say we didn’t warn you….
And here’s Vaakevandring’s last performance in 2014, playing “Fader Vaar” at Mr. and Mrs. Nordic’s wedding—what a great idea to have a band like this provide the music for your wedding. That’s the way to do it!!!!
