When discussing Lament, it’s impossible not to return time and again to that classic album, Tears of a Leper, released in 1997, which over time became an icon not only for the band but for Christian extreme metal as a whole. On that album, it was Marco Perez who stood behind the microphone, delivering those legendary growling vocals that have stood the test of time. Afterward, Lament’s story continued, now without Marco on vocals, until today, when it seems the band and their former vocalist’s paths are crossing once again.

As announced by Abel Gomez, Lament’s leader, Marco will return to the microphone with Lament on a track that both the band and Pérez are preparing and that will soon see the light of day. By the way, Abel told us, “I’ve known Marco Pérez for years, ever since I was a teenager. We shared many dreams together and achieved many of them, and at some point, our paths had to diverge” referring to Marco’s departure from Lament, but he adds that “… now, thank God, we’ve reconnected, and I’m writing a song—some new songs for Spotify—and I wanted to invite him to join us on a track he’s already working on. He kindly agreed to participate with us, so let’s hope everything goes well and that people who listen to the song will like it.”
Abel Gomez also told us that this new Lament track featuring Marco Perez, “…will be available mainly on Spotify and on our YouTube channel. We’re going to make a lyric video, so we’re working on that with him right now, and we’ll see what God has in store for us down the road.”

We couldn’t help but ask about the possibility of a new album, considering that Lament’s last album was 2024’s “Shot Down But Not Destroyed,” and the 2025 compilation “The Last Journey: 32 Years of Resilience 1993-2025.” “Right now, it’s no longer profitable to record an album, to record a CD…,” Abel told us. “Obviously, we have to adapt to the times, but we will be recording sporadically and putting more new tracks on Spotify. With digital platforms, music has changed, times have changed, and well, an album, a CD—it’s almost economically unfeasible now, so that’s how we’re going to be working for now. I don’t think there will be a new album this year. There will be a new album in the future, but there will be a lot of sporadic music. On platforms, we might be uploading a song every two months, and well, that’s how it’s being done right now. It’s unfortunate because we love the physical format, but it’s no longer profitable, so we have to adapt and move forward!”
Abel Gomez, in addition to having historically always been at the helm of Lament, is also a veteran of the Metal scene and a Heavy Metal fan, which is why we decided to ask him if they had ever considered recording a cover or a version of a song by a major band, in true Lament style. “We’ve thought about it many times”, was his response. “But our commitments outside the band—like work and family—prevent us from doing so. We’re very busy. We do have in mind that we’d like to do a cover. In the future, we might surprise you with a cover of a band that has shaped our musical taste, but for now, there’s nothing concrete”, leaving the door open to a possible surprise from Lament in the future.

What’s certain is that Lament isn’t slowing down. They’re moving forward with plans for the future. The most important thing is the anticipation of hearing Marco Pérez with the band again on a new track, which will be unveiled any moment now.
