Ícaro Prepares For The Launch Of Its Third And Final Album | “Siendo Libre” Is Finally Set To Be Released
Last year was a very busy one for Ícaro, so much so that the timeline kept getting pushed back, and what was supposed to be the release of their new material was postponed until 2026. Now, it seems the time has finally come for “Siendo Libre” to be released and published.
According to Horacio Heredia, guitarist and leader of Ícaro, there are reasons for the delay. “Since we decided to make a comeback, from 2023 until now, the idea was just to play a couple of shows and really focus on the album,” Horacio told us. “Well, we ended up touring the entire country like never before in the band’s history, from north to south. That got us really excited about being able to take Ícaro to places we couldn’t reach before, and along the way of playing live, the album was being recorded. It was recorded in Puerto Madryn, with drums, bass, and guitar, by Pepe Guagliarello, Bernardo Saldivia, and me, at what’s known as “Cartucho Records.” From there, we collaborated with several guest musicians to add guitar solos, vocals, and so on. Gustavo Retamozo also played drums. All of that contributed to the delay, as did the economic situation. Let’s face it: Ícaro created its own label to release the albums, and the Argentine economy plays a role in that. Nevertheless, we were still able to tour—which was what mattered most to us—and fulfill the dream of this album that we owed not only to our audience but also to ourselves.”

As those who follow us regularly will know, Ícaro has released a preview and music video for what will be this third and final album. It’s for the title track of this album, but despite the delay, “Siendo Libre” already has a release date. Horacio told us about it, saying, “We believe the physical copy will be available in the last days of May or the first days of June. The plan is for people to be able to buy the album on the 19th in the capital. It will also be available on digital platforms, as well as during the tour we’re doing this year and through a pre-sale on the band’s website, via our own label, Tharseo Records. At first, it will only be available on CD, and later on vinyl. It will take a little longer, but that’s the plan.”
By the way, Ícaro is preparing a new tour throughout Argentina, including in the city of Buenos Aires, to officially present “Siendo Libre,” with the album already available in both physical and digital formats. Regarding the tour, Ícaro’s guitarist and leader told us, “The confirmed dates are the ones that have been published (including in this issue and in the upcoming Metalica fanzine to be released soon). There’s a possibility of going to Chile. We’re working on it. We had to postpone it to officially release the album, but we think it will be a little later. There are dates that haven’t been added yet. Bariloche, Misiones, possibly Viedma.”

“Siendo Libre” will be Ícaro’s final album, marking the end of their long history in metal, featuring many guest musicians; thus, it will not only be a conclusion but also a grand finale to Ícaro’s story. “This is the band’s last physical album,” Horacio confirmed to us. “Honestly, it’s not the financial situation that’s influencing the decision, but the fact that I can’t give the band the dedication I used to in recent times. It’s a personal decision due to a lot of personal issues. Releasing this final album is a debt we owe—both personally and to the fans who’ve always supported us. We need—at least in my case—a break. I have a lot of personal issues to resolve. Everything we did with Ícaro from day one until now was done with genuine feeling and love for the music. It’s necessary to stop and rest. Above all, there has to be a purpose for playing. That has changed in my life as well.”

However, it seems that Ícaro’s end will pertain to touring and the activity the band has been engaged in up to now. There is still a possibility that in the future, there may be new music or even the occasional performance. “I think that from now on there won’t be any new Ícaro albums, and there won’t be these kinds of tours (which were really great),” Horacio told us. “It’s likely that every now and then, something will come out. Surely during that break—we believe that when the band’s 30th anniversary comes around—there’s a biography set to be released, which a friend is writing. He’s taking his time, and that’s better for us because we need that time too. Surely, to accompany the release of that biography, something could happen, something will happen, and surely it will be time for us to renew ourselves. What’s certain is that June 20 in Burzaco is Ícaro’s last date in our city, and that’s why we want to document it with a film, so people can treasure it too. We’re starting the tour this year, and it’s very likely that the last date will be in Santa Fe. That possibility exists, and since we feel the need to document it, perhaps that will be the only date in 2027, early in the year, as the final closing of the entire tour.”
The important thing is that between late May and early June, “Siendo Libre,” Ícaro’s latest album, will be available—likely first in digital format and later in physical format. For now, Horacio also told us that “On June 20, when we present the new album here in our hometown where we started, Burzaco, we plan to give the audience a very special gift, which has to do with the spiritual aspect of us as God’s creation. That is something very fundamental.”

We may not realize it, but we are witnessing something historic. These are the final dates of a tour that Ícaro kicked off in 2023, traveling across the entire country, and which marks the end of the band—at least in terms of the intense activity and touring they’ve been doing up until now.
