The phrase says more than just a title. It is a statement of principles. Tiago Torres has a background in Brazilian Thrash Metal, an interesting variant of the many that Thrash has cultivated over the years. Names such as Sepultura, Korzus, and others are illustrious names in that scene, influencing everything that would come after. In this landscape, the appearance of Mad Dragzter, with its energy and power, was a real discovery on the Brazilian scene. In any case, Mad Dragzter came to an end, but Tiago Torres, vocalist and guitarist, decided not to give up and is back on the scene with his new project called No More Death, obviously embodied in Thrash Metal, and in the most direct and virulent way possible.
We had the opportunity to listen to and review No More Death’s first album (“The Death Is Dead”), recently released independently and soon to be released by the beloved label Roxx Records, so we think this is a good opportunity to exchange a few words with Tiago Torres, who in this article tells us several things about No More Death….

To start from the beginning, tell us what happened with Mad Dragzter and why the band broke up. Is there any chance of a reunion at some point?

“Mad Dragzter closed its doors shortly after releasing its last album, ”Master Of Space in Time,” in 2015. And it’s definitely the end, there’s no chance of the band coming back! My new band is No More Death, and this one is here to stay, God willing.”

How did No More Death come about and what is the idea behind this project?

“Since the end of MD, I’ve had this burning desire in my heart to start composing, playing, and recording again. In 2019, I thought of the band’s name, from the passage in Revelation 21:4, and I started thinking about riffs and ideas. But it wasn’t until 2024 that the real opportunity to get the project off the ground arose, and then we created The Death is Dead. Band logo, cover art, sound, compositions, and arrangements.”

No More Death’s first album, “The Death Is Dead,” has just been released. How was the recording process? Did you play all the instruments on it?

“Almost all of them! I recorded all the guitars, vocals, bass, etc. The solos were done by Demis Kohler, owner of the studio where we recorded and co-producer of the album with me.”

Is No More Death a band or your solo project? Will you ever go out and play live to showcase your music?

“Actually, it’s both. In terms of composition, recording, and production, it’s more of a project. But the time will come when we’ll have a full lineup to play live and do some touring!”

“The Death Is Dead” is an explosion of old-school Thrash Metal. How did you come up with the musical concept for No More Death and this album in particular?

“I’ve been listening to Thrash for 40 years! It’s in my blood! It’s my favorite musical style and where my favorite bands are. So, when I started imagining what No More Death would be like, I definitely focused on Thrash, on its roots, fast, furious, full of riffs. And I created the sound that I would like to hear in a Thrash band, as a fan. And I’m a very demanding fan! Hahahahaha!!!”

If you had to compare “The Death Is Death” to any other Mad Dragzter album, what would you say?

“It’s hard for me to compare, but I think No More Death has all the good stuff that MD had. The aggressiveness of the EP “New Times,” the weight and density of “Strong Mind,” the melodic lines of “Killing the Devil Inside,” and the riffs and speed of “Master of Space and Time.” I put it all in the blender, and out came No More Death. In both bands, I always wrote all the songs, lyrics, riffs, and melodies. So it was like a sequel. And without a doubt, The Death is Dead is by far the best work of my career. More mature, more musical, more direct! I’m very happy with the album!”

Old-school Thrash Metal moved away from its original sound, and over time it ended up mixing with other genres, lowering the decibels quite a bit. Currently, there seems to be a return to the old sound. What do you think about that?

“It’s true! The great classic bands have changed their sound a lot. Several new bands have emerged, and that wave from the early 2000s. And without a doubt, true thrash will never die. But what I miss in all these new thrash bands (hundreds, at least) is originality. They lack personality. With the old bands, we could start listening to the first chords or the vocals and we knew instantly who they were. Today, everything is very similar. Cover art, logo, riff! There is a lack of creativity, personality, and inspiration. That’s why, with No More Death, we wanted to do everything differently. Logo, cover art, sound. Nothing obvious. And what thrash band starts an album with a chorus?”

Death seems to be the concept of the album, from the title, the band name, and even the artwork. What can you tell us about that?

“The death of death, actually! Hahahaha… We wanted to talk about a universal theme, something that is part of everyday life for all human beings. And everyone is going to die: the rich, the famous, the powerful… So on the album we tell how death was defeated, how it was killed! Who killed death and how He did it! Without a doubt, it was the way we found to express our faith, but in a more real, practical way that reaches all human beings.”

What do you think about those who believe that the Thrash Metal genre is not compatible with a Christian message in its lyrics?

“I think they need to go to sleep! Hahahaha… Seriously, many non-Christian Metal and Thrash fans have listened to our album, liked the message, and read Revelation 21:4 for the first time. So the Lord’s work has advanced by leaps and bounds, and that’s what matters. Of course, there are those who frown upon it. But they are few and far between, and they are the ones I like to talk to the most! Hahahaha!!!!”

“The Death Is Dead” was released in physical format, and now we also hear that it will be released by Roxx Productions. How did that opportunity come about, and what does it mean to you? Also, I can’t help but ask your opinion on physical format vs. digital format…

“Releasing the album with the legendary Roxx Records is definitely a dream come true, and I’m very grateful to Bill and Scott for that. But really, what made them stop and listen to the work and pay more attention to the album were the American, Canadian, and Mexican fans, who kept insisting that they release it there. Many even bought the Brazilian edition, which was much more expensive, slow, and difficult to obtain. So it was this organic street team that made the US release of the album possible. Regarding media formats, I think there’s room for everyone. We’re on both, we just haven’t released on vinyl yet (I hope Bill is reading this and has some good ideas right now, hahaha). And I think that after the explosion and comeback of vinyl, the next medium that will come back stronger and explode will be the CD. The new generations also want to “own” music. So the CD will be a cheaper alternative to make that happen!”

I’m going to put you on the spot, Bay Area Thrash Metal or German Thrash Metal?

“Hahaha… that’s easy! Definitely Bay Area! My favorite bands are American: Metallica, Slayer (not from the Bay Area, but from the same era and movement), Exodus, Testament, etc. But I also really like German bands. Especially old Kreator. It’s funny, because Brazilian Thrash is much more German than American. But in our case, the biggest influences have always been American!”

Beyond the release and promotion of “The Death Is Dead,” what are the next projects for No More Death?

“We have a new album on the way, which should be out in the middle of next year! Everything is recorded, except for the solos, which will be recorded in early 2026. We are going to move on to the last years of this era of humanity, very difficult times for Christians, dark times. And I only have one word to describe how the new album is turning out: KILLER!!!”

Of course, I thank you for the opportunity to have this conversation with you, and I leave you the last space for whatever you want to express….

“Gustavo, brother, thank you so much for all your support! I loved our conversation! And to everyone reading this interview, I ask you to give No More Death a chance. Listen to us, comment, get in touch with us. We love talking to you! May the Lord bless you all!”

No More Death is on the move. Their first and latest album, “The Death Is Dead,” is an incredible display of riffs, power, and the force of old-school thrash metal. It will be released through the Roxx Records label, so the project is gaining momentum, and according to what our friend Tiago just told us, No More Death may have a second album out in 2026. One more reason to keep an eye on No More Death, follow them on social media, and support this project, which is independently produced and driven by passion! And if that weren’t enough, two lyric videos for No More Death, as well as our review and opinion of the album “The Death Is Dead”….
