Santuario No. 9 – November/December 2001
We always like to emphasize the value of what is done with great effort, without any support but with a lot of determination and passion. That’s what material like this has. A fanzine made in black and white, which, with a lot of enthusiasm, dared to spread the word about the White Metal scene.
The people at Santuario have been fighting for many, many years with many initiatives. This fanzine is just one more of their manifestations. Produced with great determination, with a value (at that time) of 1 Argentine peso (equivalent to 1 dollar), the Santuario fanzine was one of the few media outlets available to us for information about the White Metal scene at that time.
In this case, we share with you issue 9 of this fanzine, released in December 2001 (not a very happy time in Argentina), which contains interviews with Alice Cooper, Saviour Machine, and the local band Sacerdotes, as well as articles on Metanoia, Mortification, Living Sacrifice, Deliverance, and information on local bands such as Altar, Triade, Boanerges, etc. With its enjoyable, clear, and direct writing style, Santuario was a good, and one of the few, graphic options in those years for learning about the scene.
Of course, over the years, Santuario ceased to exist, but only in physical format, as both Javier Aguilera and Karina Espinosa, its authors and main ideologists, followed in its footsteps with their current website, which, in a similar but digital format, continues to promote the White Metal scene in Argentina and around the world.
As a kind of tribute to the people who always did things for the scene, putting all their effort and dedication into it, here is a PDF copy of that fanzine. It is also a way to remember, why not, so that new generations can appreciate what others, in other times, have done to spread the word, and also for all those who like to have a copy of a fanzine from those years at hand, even if it is in digital format.
