Interview with Batista from Antidemon | “Argentina Is The Country Where We Have Played The Most After Brazil”
For us, talking about Antidemon means revisiting a little of our history as a media outlet. It is impossible not to remember the old days, Batista’s visits to the radio station, endless conversations with the band, etc., which is why Antidemon is such an important part of our lives, history, etc. Beyond these personal issues, the truth is that Antidemon is one of the longest-running bands in Brazil, having made Extreme Metal its guiding light and perseverance, some of the pillars that keep Antidemon as a more than interesting band.
Antidemon was founded in January 1994. Originally from Sao Paulo, Brazil, the band began by mixing influences from Death Metal and Grindcore, but over time developed a unique style that was embraced by fans around the world, which can be heard in any of their five albums released to date, as well as several demos, participation in compilations, and a DVD.
It is worth noting that Antidemon has played live on five continents and in 39 countries, no less. On this occasion, the band is presenting their latest production, “Convergence,” which was released in late 2024 through the label “Vision Of God,” and it is through the people at the production company “Carrera Vertiginosa” that they are returning to Argentina to present their latest album.
A few days before a new performance in Argentina, we had the opportunity to exchange a few words with Antonio Carlos Batista Do Nascimento (simply “Batista” to us), a friendly, cool, humble guy who is always up for anything. We talked about a little bit of everything, the band’s current situation, the current tour, the new album “Convergence,” and future projects….

First of all, thank you for the interview. It’s an honor to have you back after so long to talk with you… What does this new visit to Argentina mean for Antidemon and for you?
“Thank you, Gustavo Rociano and Delotroladometal, for this great opportunity to talk a little about Antidemon and our career! This new visit by the band to Argentina is quite significant for us because Argentina is definitely the country where we have played the most after Brazil! This will be Antidemon’s seventh time in Argentina! The other country we play most often is Germany! With six tours of the country! This visit by Antidemon to Argentina is very special because it makes Argentina the champion of Antidemon tours!”
What memories do you have of each of Antidemon’s visits to Argentina? For our part, we have great memories of the shows the first time they were in Buenos Aires…
“As I just said, we are about to make our seventh visit to Argentina, and each tour has been very special! To talk about everything, I would need to write a book! But I want to remember the first time we went to Argentina, which was in 2002, and we did three concerts, including one at “El Borde” in Temperley, and it was incredible! All in all, we spent about 20 days in Buenos Aires and the experience brought us true friendships that were made in 2002 and remain to this day. People who became a very important part of our history!”

Antidemon’s latest album is “Convergence.” How does it differ from previous albums?
“Every Antidemon album has its own story and sound! It’s really something that has happened naturally over the years! So it also happened with the latest album, Convergence! It has its own sound and differs from the others in that it is perhaps more rhythmic and has fewer grindcore passages.”
How did the recording of “Convergence” come about and what is the main message and idea behind the album?
“The album Convergence began to be composed in 2022 and we entered the studio to record in September 2023. While still in the middle of recording the album Convergence, we took a break for an unprecedented tour in Japan between April and May 2024. Upon returning to Brazil, we continued in the studio and finished recording in August 2024. The album was released in November 2024 through the label “Vision of God Records” in the United States. The central theme of this album is, as its name suggests, convergence! In this case, the 10 lyrics on the album talk about our faith and the convergence of everything in Christ. One of the biblical passages that illustrates this is found in Romans 11:36: “For from him and through him and for him are all things.”

Antidemon has always been considered a Death Metal and Grindcore band, but we’ve also always noticed a strong Hardcore influence. What other genres influence you when you’re writing songs?
“Exactly! From the beginning, Antidemon has been writing what we like since 1994. We never thought or said that we would play death metal, grindcore, punk rock, or hardcore! The riffs and vocals came up in every rehearsal, and that’s how our sound has always been! Obviously, the specialized media and the audience itself have been naming the band’s style, which on many occasions, and by many people to this day, says that we have our own style: the Antidemon style!”
We heard that you were interviewed on the radio show hosted by Andreas Kisser from Sepultura in Brazil. Can you tell us about that experience?
“Yes! It was a great opportunity to be on Andreas Kisser’s show. He treated us with great respect, expressing his admiration at various points in the interview for our career, which, like Sepultura’s, includes endless tours around the world. Andreas also praised the album Convergence, considering it very cohesive and solid. Four songs from the album were played during the interview, and the response from listeners was really fantastic! For us in Antidemon, who consider Sepultura to be the greatest representation of Brazilian metal worldwide, it was truly incredible to be interviewed by their guitarist and his son, Yohan Kisser.”

We also learned that Marcelo Soldado, the guitarist who recorded “Convergence,” will not be present at Antidemon’s upcoming shows and tours. Who will replace him? Is this a permanent departure, or will Marcelo rejoin the band in the future?
“Yes! This was Marcelo Soldado’s final farewell to Antidemon! I, Batista, am now the guitarist in charge of the six strings in Antidemon! For most live performances, the band will now consist of me on guitar and vocals, and Juliana Batista on drums. A duo! To maintain the weight and not miss the bass, I increased the gauge of the strings by playing in Drop B, and in some songs we also lowered the tuning. We strive to offer our audience the maximum weight live! For future recordings, I plan to record the bass in addition to the guitars!”
What are your expectations for the shows in Argentina?
“The expectation for these concerts in Argentina is to reconnect with old friends and make new ones! I think the most valuable thing in this band’s life is the immense number of people who actively participate in our lives, giving us a very special experience.”
You’ve already visited more than 39 countries. Is it your plan to play in every country in the world? Hehe. After the tour in Argentina, what other countries will you be visiting?
“Antidemon is more of a touring band than a studio band! Touring the world seems to be part of our story, and as much as we would like to stay in our country a little longer, we always receive invitations for international tours, filling us with joy and the certainty that we were born for this. The next country we will visit for the first time will be South Korea in May 2026, where we will play in Seoul! After that, we will spend a little over 30 days on our second tour of Japan. To complete the 40 countries we have already played in, we will do an unprecedented tour of Finland in July 2026. And to answer the question: if we can, we definitely want to play in every country in the world!”

What are Antidemon’s next projects as a band?
“We don’t want to wait too long to record our next album! We want it to be in two or three years at the most! Despite the difficulty of obtaining visas for a tour of the United States, we want to overcome this challenge and fulfill the hundreds of requests from those who ask us when our first visit will be. Perhaps another goal could be to write a book that tells the story of the band, for which I have already been compiling drafts and memories of so many anecdotes experienced during these 32 years of the band. Another wish for the future is to take advantage of the opportunity to now be a duo formed by my wife Juliana and me, so that we can be even more united as a couple, where our tours are also trips for a couple who love each other and can enjoy life even more!”
We appreciate your time for this interview, and I’ll leave you with some final words for your fans in Argentina and around the world…
“We sincerely thank Delotroladometal for allowing us to get to know our dear readers a little better. I hope that nothing robs you of your desire to live and overcome obstacles! Life is made up of challenges that, once overcome, become invincible structures to move forward. May hope and love be in everyone’s hearts, watered by the best of Heavy Metal, which should never be lacking! Hang in there, Argentina!”

As always, it is a pleasure and a privilege to interview Batista. The important thing is that Antidemon will be presenting their latest album, “Convergence,” here in Argentina twice. On October 17 at “Primer Piso Bar,” Avenida Rivadavia, 1392, Buenos Aires, and on October 18 at “Gier Music Club,” Avenida Alvarez Thomas 1078, Buenos Aires. On both occasions, they will be joined by Brazilian hardcore band HC4 and local bands. This will be Antidemon’s seventh time in Argentina, and of course, it will be a great opportunity to see and hear such an extreme metal show again.
Tickets for both shows are available through Carrera Vertiginosa, so we recommend contacting https://www.facebook.com/sofia.d.guerrera.ferrary.
