We’re back again with an old issue of the Santuario fanzine, a copy of which we’ve kept and which is available below. We’ve said it before. We like to highlight the value of what is created with great effort, without any kind of support but with a lot of determination and passion. Santuario is a clear example of this. Through the fanzine, and using various methods to promote the “White Metal” scene, they have been fighting for it over the years—and we repeat, without any kind of support.
Back then, Javier and Karina, its creators, published this fanzine, which, as you can see, had no sponsors or advertising. Made with hard work and seeking nothing more than simple dissemination, the Santuario fanzine was one of the few resources available in the late ’90s and early 2000s for finding out about new developments and news from the scene.
This is issue number 3, from April 2000, and it’s packed with content. Among other things, it includes a brief overview of Logos’ history, the famous interview with Luis Barni (where he shares his well-known opinion on the “headbanging” phenomenon), plus articles on Alice Cooper, Rob Rock, and Bride. There are also reviews of some shows from that era, song lyrics, and more. Comprehensive and interesting information. Keep in mind that back then, social media didn’t exist, the internet was in its infancy and not accessible to everyone, music releases trickled in (I don’t know if it was the same or worse than now), etc. That’s why a fanzine like this—and the many other media outlets that existed and somehow helped spread the word about the scene—was so valuable.
Santuario is still going strong. Not with a physical fanzine anymore, but with a strong presence on social media, such as its YouTube channel, where they post updates, news, and everything related to the White Metal scene. Below, we’ve included the details, as well as the download link for this issue in PDF format, for all those with fond memories or who never had access to this material, or—due to their age—don’t know what media coverage was like in those good old days….
