If you’re one of those who think that Metalcore is always pretty much the same, you’re right. We’re on the same page. The formulas are repeated till boredom, but sometimes there are things worth pausing for, at least for a moment. Prevailer seems to be coming from a different lane than the Metalcore wave—not exactly in the opposite direction, but certainly down a different path.
But you’re probably wondering who Prevailer is, and where these guys came from. Well, the answer lies in New Jersey, back in 2015, when the band was founded. Since then, Prevailer has released a well-received EP in 2016 and has since put out various singles in digital format. Now it’s time for their first full-length album.

“Convalescent” is the title of Prevailer’s debut album. With their definitive lineup finally set and a new alliance with Rottweiler Records, they’re ready to unveil their devastating work. Featuring eight exquisitely crafted tracks, each one a soul-searching journey, a confrontation, a revelation, the long years that have been invested in Convalescent’s creation are more than apparent.
The album will be officially released on August 28, 2026, but thanks to the kindness of the label and Imperative PR, we were able to hear a preview of “Convalescent” to give you a sense of what Prevailer’s debut album is all about—a band that, as we know, belongs to the Metalcore genre but offers a somewhat different approach than what we usually hear.
Prevailer’s approach on “Convalescent” is to put a new spin on the genre, offering a hard, heavy metalcore sound, but with compositions that lean toward the progressive side, in an introspective atmosphere that has nothing to do with other similar bands, offering, in a way, a different perspective.
“Diseased Frames” is the opening track of the album. With overwhelming force, low-pitched, cutting guitars, all at a moderate pace, Prevailer offers a panorama tinged with apocalyptic and melancholic tones. The same atmosphere can be felt in “Into The Furnace,” chosen as the lead single for which a music video has been filmed.
And mind you, it’s not that there’s anything different from what we already know. In fact, you can detect influences from the biggest names in metalcore here. The difference lies in the distinct approach to the genre, with a unique sound and a level of introspection never seen before. Perhaps “Conflux” is what most ties Prevailer to the genre, both in terms of power and the energy it unleashes.

We also come across the title track of this album, which is essentially an instrumental featuring a rich interplay of various ambient sounds, and seems to serve as the lead-in to “Entry Wound,” a melancholic and cathartic demonstration of this crossover with progressive metal—something akin to mixing Dream Theater with Slipknot.
“Crooked Atlas” follows the album’s logic, with an interesting accompaniment of various sampled sounds and a “techno”-style vibe, before leading into “Malady,” another showcase of ‘breakdowns’ with a more progressive, mid-tempo atmosphere; but perhaps “Inversion” is the most interesting track on this album. Its intricate unfolding across different tempos and its choruses make it worth keeping in mind.
Prevailer’s “Convalescent” stands as proof that Metalcore doesn’t necessarily have to fall back on clichés and worn-out tropes. The genre still seems to have a lot to say, and in that sense, Prevailer timidly dares to offer something different in a style that sometimes overuses worn-out formulas.
In that sense, Prevailer’s sound has a different tone, painting a slightly different picture from what we already know.

The band consists of Franklin Dexter Peer on vocals, Jackson Newcomb on guitar, Tim Dyson on guitar (who also provides vocals), Dylan Volb on drums, and Corbin Smith on bass. With this lineup, Prevailer is preparing to officially release “Convalescent” on August 28 of this year via Rottweiler Records. And to give you a taste of what Prevailer’s first full-length album will be like, here’s the music video for “Into The Furnace,” a preview of “Convalescent,” and of course, as always, we’re sharing the links to the band’s official Facebook page so you can get to know them better and stay updated on their latest news…
