I don’t really remember exactly when this fanzine came out, as it doesn’t indicate the month or year, such is the simplicity and modesty of its production. It was a free publication and its design did not involve anything digital or computerized, just manual work.
The Don’t Give Up Zine didn’t last long, nor did it have a large circulation. It was distributed at some concerts in the early years of this century, and not much else. We believe that this first issue was released in 2003, as there is a note inside about the album “Resurgir” by Cruel Adicción, which was released in that year. The printing is not good either, as it was done using old-fashioned photocopies, and its rather chaotic design is reminiscent of punk, although of course it has a vibe closer to metal.
This zine was released as a kind of extension of one of the best (if not the best) radio programs of those years dedicated to Christian metal, called “No Te Rindas” (or NTR, as we all called it), hosted by “Vaky” Ramirez, with the company of ‘Charly’ (author of this zine), Markos “Metalkore,” and all the characters who passed through there, in which the scene was broadcast in a format unprecedented until those years and placing a lot of emphasis on different aspects of “heavy” music (whether it be Nu Metal, Death Metal, Thrash Metal, Punk, Hardcore, etc.). It was a gathering place for broken, hopeless, rebellious people, and those of us who accompanied that madness joined that whole group of “bad people” (as they would call us now, since the concept of “good people” is in vogue).
In our case, we contributed articles, interviews, and information, since in those years, www.delotroladometal.com.ar was one of the few sources of information about the scene, so logically, we shared a lot of the material we had on hand so that it could be disseminated through this zine. Thus, in this first edition, there is information about the Brazilian band Seven Angels, Vengeance Rising, Crimson Moonlight, Gryp, One Bad Pig, Cruel Adicción, etc.
The best thing about those times was collaborating with everyone, sharing, not competing, and having a clear idea of what we were looking for and where we were going.
We are sharing the copy we have of this zine in PDF format, obviously warning about the logical flaws in the design. It was something totally independent and, as mentioned above, practically handmade, but with this we want to show everything that was done in those years and remember the good old days….
