“The Prophet” is the new release from the Norwegian band... | Warning… Monograf May Captivate You…And Never Let You Go…
Let’s see, how can we define what we hear? How can we define Monograf? Better to start at the beginning. Monograf is a band from Norway, labeled as “Post-Rock” with elements of Norwegian Folk, progressive elements, and the oppressive atmosphere that characterizes extreme music. A strange mix, but effective.
Monograf began back in 2009 as a project by Erik Normann Sannes-Aanonsen, initially known as “Tiny Bits Of Heart.” The original project evolved into a band, Monograf of course, and in 2016 they released their first EP, which marked their recording debut. They would later release their first album, “Nadir,” in 2019, after five years of recording!

The craziest thing is that the band itself acknowledges different and strange influences in their musical style. Names such as Black Emperor, A Silver Mt. Zion, The Mars Volta, Norwegian violinist Nils Okland, and all Norwegian folk music. It’s truly crazy and worth a listen. But be careful, Monograf grabs you and doesn’t let go. You have been warned.
The band consists of Erik Normann Sannes Aanonsen on vocals, guitars, and harp; Sunniva Molvaer Ihlaug on vocals and violin; Hanna Sannes Aanonsen on bass and backing vocals; Thomas Anda on guitars; and Erlend Markussen Kilane on drums.

Monograf’s proposal is serious business, and they intend to go much further with their next album, which will be titled “Occultation” and will be officially released in November of this year. As a preview, Monograf has just released a single. The song in question is “The Prophet,” and it is now available on digital platforms. We’ll leave it here so you can hear what we’re talking about.
“The Prophet” is a heavy, dense, dark piece, with rotten vocals and violin sounds that fit perfectly with the journey Monograf proposes.
We think Monograf’s work is appealing, original, and musically flawless. While we wait for the release of “Occultation,” we leave you with the aforementioned single “The Prophet” and the video clip for “The Golden Calf,” from his previous album, Nadir. Of course, we’ll leave you with his social media links…
