Opresor: Frente De Batalla | The Legacy of Thrash Metal
(2024 – Pacheco Records)
Finding thrash metal these days is almost like looking for a needle in a haystack. It’s true, it was never a really popular genre accessible to the “normal” public, beyond the popularity of well-known bands like Metallica, Megadeth, etc. We’re talking about hard, fierce thrash metal in the vein of Slayer, Exodus, and German bands like Kreator, Sodom, etc. That is the path chosen by Opresor, an Argentine band that, taking another step forward on the battlefront, releases its second album, aptly titled “Frente De Batalla” (Battlefront), enrolled in the aforementioned Thrash Metal style, marking a difference with those who stuck with a style that is not exactly in the true spirit of the genre.

In that sense, “Frente De Batalla” turns out to be an album totally inspired by the aforementioned bands, maintaining the essence of hard and fierce Thrash Metal, as it should be. With just eight tracks, three of which were recorded live, Opresor reveals part of its proposal in this second album.
Given the small number of new tracks and the length of the album, one could say that “Frente De Batalla” is almost an EP, so to speak. Beyond categorizations, the truth is that Opresor continues in this new work along the lines for which they are already known. In that sense, it comes as no surprise. From the very first track, which is the title track of the album, Opresor makes it clear that they belong to the Thrash Metal genre. Rotten vocals, super fast guitars with a lot of crunch, solid foundations, and lots of blast beats are what the band offers. The same line continues in “Dogmático Poder,” a track that the band had already released prior to the release of this album.
The album gives you no respite. It goes full throttle, and this is reflected in “Dominando el Terror,” one of the best tracks on the album with a powerful chorus (“Y estoy peleando, peleando mi batalla…”) that is sure to become a classic for the band. “Disparos En La Oscuridad” is perhaps the most different track. With a structure and base different from the others, it is where we can notice much more the diversity that Opresor imprints on its own music. Without straying from the Thrash Metal genre (quite the contrary), this track follows a different line, with some very interesting riffs and solos. “Bestia Interior” seems like a continuation of the previous track, but only because of the speed, perhaps.
For the end of this work, the band chose to include three live versions of “Masacre En Red,” “Desolación,” and “Comando Opresor,” songs from their first album, “Fiebre De Guerra.” These were recorded at the show on June 17, 2022, with remarkable sound quality, demonstrating how Opresor sounds live. The fury displayed in the studio is transferred to the live sound, as can be heard here.
This work was recorded and mastered at the now famous “Kirkincho Records” studios with Jorge Moreno as recording engineer between April 2023 and October 2024, achieving a sound in keeping with Thrash Metal. Thus, you can enjoy a good work framed in the classic sound of the genre, furious and rough, as it should be. It should be noted that, despite being an independent album, the sound quality is very good.

In terms of the artwork, we have a fitting cover with very good art. Inside the sleeve, you can find the lyrics to the songs included and the usual technical information, all in a modest edition but maintaining the tradition of the physical format, which we applaud.
Opresor may not be the revelation of Thrash Metal, but they remain true to their chosen path. In “Frente De Batalla” there is nothing modern or innovative, but Opresor maintains the essence of the most visceral Thrash Metal, with new songs that confirm that the genre is still alive and well. That is the most important thing, and we believe it will be of interest to Thrash Metal lovers.
As usual, we leave you with some things to help you get closer to the music, in this case by Opresor. Below you can find the official video clip for “Bestia Interior” and a lyric video for “Dominando El Terror.” We also leave you with where to find Opresor on social media and follow them for more news about the band….
