Fighting for Metal

V8 is not just an icon of heavy metal in Argentina, or the pioneers of metal in these lands. It is much more than that, and at least for those of us who feel that metal is something different, it is synonymous with struggle, rebellion, and identification against everything the system proposes. In addition to that, I decided to title this thought or editorial note with the title of the most emblematic album that V8 has released. There are several reasons for this, but fundamentally because those of us who are into metal know what it means to fight against everything and everyone.
Running a band, a production company, an independent label, a rehearsal space, a media outlet, etc., in this field is an invitation to failure, from a commercial or monetary point of view. It is always a losing proposition, as it is very difficult to sustain the various projects that are proposed. The causes may vary, but that’s not the point. The point is to highlight the difficulties that arise from any project related to metal. In fact, I always emphasize that when it comes to this project and webzine in particular, we have no support of any kind, only that provided by some bands and labels, and of course, those who read and follow our page. Everything, absolutely everything, comes out of our own pockets. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a complaint, but reality. We know what we’re getting into, and even so, we will continue to promote the metal scene, as we should and as we have set out to do.
But it’s not just about money, sometimes there’s a lack of understanding about what we do, disinterest from those who are supposed to support us, and even dirty tricks (so to speak) from people who only think about themselves and believe that everything is a competition to see who can spit the furthest, perhaps justifying, in some way, different types of attitudes towards others. Nothing is more repugnant and alien to the spirit of Heavy Metal than such attitudes.
Today we live in individualism. That is what the current mechanism on which today’s society functions and reasons is all about, in all walks of life. That is why everything mentioned above is not surprising. So what is the point of sustaining a project of this kind? Well, I believe that the gain comes from another source, which has nothing to do with money, business, etc., but rather, particularly in what we do, the balance tips in favor of spreading what we love, enjoy, and believe in. That’s what it’s all about. Always with our heads held high, standing tall and moving forward.
Of course, it’s not easy, as nothing in life is easy. What I write, I think of in reference to this particular project, but if we take this thought to other, much more important areas of life, perhaps we can learn something and find another reason to keep fighting and resisting, even when our arms fall and the world seems to be against us. Especially when everything, absolutely everything, looks so negative and dark. Faith is the certainty of what is hoped for, and that faith is what we must hold on to when things don’t turn out as we expect. It is seeing that beyond the storm, much higher up, there is a clear sky and the sun shining. I believe in God, which is no surprise to those who know me, and the faith that sustains me is born in God and is what sustains me, time and time again, even though one does not always go through life with optimism at full steam, but quite the opposite. As the saying goes, or at least I think it goes, the darker the night, the closer the dawn. We are forged in metal, in a thousand battles, some lost, some won, but the most important thing is that the message is, more than ever, DON’T GIVE UP… KEEP STANDING… KEEP FIGHTING BECAUSE THE BATTLE IS LONG!!!!!
I can tell you that July, as always, will bring more album reviews (we have a few waiting their turn to be published), more interviews (there are a few waiting… let’s hope they can be finalized), more news, and more. We would like to inform you that we have a “Radio” section for those who wish to publish their media there, so please contact us to add them. Oh, and we will probably take a short break at the end of July for a well-deserved vacation. When we return, we will tell you what’s coming up…
