Within Silence is one of the most interesting bands I’ve come across lately, which is why, and because their latest album, “The Eclipse Of The Worlds,” definitely won me over, I thought it was an excellent time to interview Martin Klein, the vocalist of this band that is slowly starting to make a bit of noise. The band hails from Slovakia, a country nestled in the heart of Europe, where the band is starting to make a name for itself. Much of this has to do with their latest release and the many live performances they have been doing, especially the upcoming tour this fall in Europe (our spring) that will see them touring the old continent alongside InnerWish.
In this interview, we took a look not only at the history of Within Silence but also at “The Eclipse Of The Worlds,” the metal scene in Europe, and several other issues that came up in this interesting article, which I recommend reading….

Martin, we understand that at the beginning the band was called “Rightdoor”, and that it was just a studio project between you and Richard Germanus, and then you changed the name to Within Silence just before releasing the first album, can you tell us a little bit about the origins of the band and the reasons for the name change?

“Hi Gustavo, thank you very much for having me and for the whole interview! I really appreciate it! Yes, it’s true that at the very beginning, the band was called Rightdoor. And you’re also right – at that time, it was more or less just a studio project between me and Richard Germanus. We were experimenting with ideas, writing songs, and trying to find our musical direction. We met in 2007 and officially started working together in 2008, gradually laying the foundation for what would later become Within Silence.
In those early years, we focused a lot on developing our skills as musicians and figuring out our identity as a band, all while trying to build a solid lineup which took some time. A big turning point came in 2012 when we recorded our first demo. That helped us move forward, find dedicated band members, and start performing locally in Slovakia.
Before releasing our debut album Gallery of Life in 2015, we felt it was the right moment to change the band’s name. “Rightdoor” was always more of a working title, and we wanted a name that would truly capture the message and atmosphere of our music. We went through many different ideas and suggestions, trying to find something that would reflect both the sound and the deeper meaning behind it. In the end, it was my suggestion – Within Silence – that really resonated with everyone in the band.
We felt it had the right tone – mysterious, emotional, and meaningful. For us, the name represents the idea that within silence, you can find peace, truth, and the clarity to follow your own path in life. That message is something we strongly believe in, and it’s also something we try to reflect through our lyrics and the overall spirit of our music.”

To date you have released three albums, can you give us a summary of each of them and how they differ from each other?

“Our debut album, Gallery of Life (2015), was our first big step into the metal world. It has a strong power metal base with melodic and progressive elements, and lyrically it’s very focused on life, personal growth, and faith. It was the result of many years of songwriting, and you can really hear the passion and energy of a young band finding its voice.
Our second album, Return from the Shadows (2017), was a natural evolution. It’s darker, heavier, and more mature – both musically and lyrically. We explored deeper themes, and the songs are more dynamic and diverse. It showed how much we had grown as a band, especially after playing live shows in different countries and gaining more experience.
And now, our new album The Eclipse of Worlds is definitely our most ambitious release so far. The sound is bigger, more cinematic, and more atmospheric, yet it still keeps the core elements of melody and power that define us. Lyrically, it explores the spiritual struggle — the battle between light and darkness in the world, and within ourselves. We really pushed our limits with this one, and we are very proud of it.”

We have in our hands “The Eclipse Of The Worlds”, for us is a great work that gives another color to the already known European Power Metal style, what can you tell us about it? What did you set out to do with this album?

“First of all, thank you! We’re really glad to hear that you enjoy the album! Like every musician before starting to write and record a new album, our goal was always to create the best work we can at that moment in time. That was, of course, our aim this time as well. We are very satisfied with the result, and even with some distance now, we in the band believe this is our best work so far.
The inspiration for The Eclipse of Worlds comes from the theme of spiritual warfare, which shaped both the lyrical content and the musical direction of the album. The main idea is rooted in the biblical depiction of the battle between good and evil, but we also added our own imaginative touch. To better express this, we explore two worlds: the real world we live in here on Earth, and a “fantasy” or “spiritual” world where our choices take form as actions.
While writing the album, we pictured ourselves as Medieval knights or warriors, fighting demons and dark creatures for eternal life. However, this isn’t a concept album — since each of us has a unique life and story, we didn’t want to confine the listener with a fixed narrative. That’s why the knight on the album cover represents anyone of us. Listeners can relate to him, imagining themselves as real warriors in another world, fighting for their eternal lives.
And why The Eclipse of Worlds? The eclipse symbolizes a feeling many people experience today — that evil seems to overshadow the good. It often feels like darkness and negativity are more visible, but it’s important to remember there is still a lot of good around us. Even when it seems like evil wins, the ultimate victory has already been achieved. God has already triumphed and offers us the chance for salvation. So the album’s message is also a reminder to stay positive, to keep our focus on the ultimate goal: reaching the light and striving for eternal life.”

Regarding both the title of this album and the lyrics particularly of the song “The Eclipse Of The Worlds”, what do you think in relation to this kind of cold war in the world between the extreme ideologies that are currently fighting?

“The lyrics can definitely be interpreted in relation to the current situation in the world. The title The Eclipse of Worlds can for sure reflect how conflicting ideologies create tension and division, almost like a spiritual battle between darkness and light. Ultimately, true peace and healing come from seeking love, understanding, and forgiveness. It’s a reminder to look beyond conflict and strive for unity, compassion, and hope in these challenging times.”

What are your lyrics about in general? When composing, is the music first and then the lyrics or is it the other way around?

“In general, our lyrics deal with themes like life and its various situations, everything that influences us, relationships, inner struggles, faith, and spiritual battles. I often write about inner experiences and emotional matters. When it comes to the creative process, I always start with the music first. Once all the vocal melodies are finalized, I then write the lyrics. There are still many topics and ideas we haven’t explored as a band yet, and I’m really excited to see where our new music will take us lyrically.”

What are the bands that influence you? What do you listen to in a band meeting for example?

“For me, the influences come from the classics of hard rock and heavy metal. Bands like Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Metallica, all the way to power metal legends like Helloween, Blind Guardian, and Stratovarius. Of course, I also listen to other genres, both within metal and beyond. In the band, everyone has their own favorite styles, but where we all come together and share a common love is definitely power metal, which is why we create that kind of music ourselves !”

There is something that caught our attention about Within Silence and that is that your voice is not the classic tonality of the genre, which adds another factor of difference with many other bands, do you agree on this? What other factor do you think Within Silence has that differentiates them from the rest?

“Yes, my voice is not typical for this genre, and I’m glad about that because it helps us stand out from others. Some fans say my voice reminds them of Blaze Bayley, Tobias Sammet, or Bruce Dickinson, while others hear different influences. But for sure, my voice has its own distinctive tone and sound. What helps make this difference is that even when I sing high notes, my voice doesn’t become too thin and it stays open and full, which creates a other vocal style compared to the typical power metal voices.
Our goal is not to experiment too much or create something completely new, so you can always expect melodic power metal from us, performed at a high level. What really sets us apart is the focus on best possible songwriting, interesting and catchy songs, as well as top-notch performances and production. And then there is last aspect which is crucial and it’s not something you can achieve just by practice or external influences. It’s something that has to be captured in the songs themselves and that makes fans want to come back and listen again and again. We believe we achieved this with our new album, and we’re excited to build on that and improve with every future release.
We also don’t necessarily follow current trends; instead, we create music based on what we truly feel, staying true to ourselves and our artistic vision.”

I know that you are presenting live “The Eclipse Of The Worlds”, and that in the autumn you are going to do a tour with Inner Wish, tell us a little bit about it. Are there any plans to play in other places outside Europe? In Argentina and Brazil there are many fans of Power Metal and Heavy Metal in general, so you would be very welcome in Latin America!!!! In relation to that, what do you know about Argentina?

“Yes, right now we’re presenting The Eclipse of Worlds live, and we’re really excited about the upcoming autumn tour with InnerWish. It’s a great opportunity to bring the new songs to the stage and share them with more people.
As for playing outside of Europe, we’ve received some offers from other parts of the world, which we’re very grateful for. But at the moment, Europe is still the most realistic option due to the high travel costs and logistical challenges involved with touring overseas. That said, we really hope that in the future we’ll get the chance to bring our music to fans beyond Europe.
Argentina and Brazil have some of the most passionate metal fans in the world, especially when it comes to Power Metal and Heavy Metal. It would be an honor to play there one day! We know Argentina as a country with a rich culture, strong musical energy, and of course. Argentina was also the homeland of the Pope Francis, a truly inspiring person I deeply admired and respected. And of course, we can’t forget Lionel Messi, one of the greatest football players of all time. So yes, we’d love to visit Argentina and hope to make it there in the near future!”

How is the Metal scene in Europe? From here we notice that the bands have to get together in several big festivals that take place in many places, what do you think about it?

“The metal scene in Europe is still very much alive and active. There are a lot of passionate fans and a strong community that keeps supporting the genre. It’s true that big festivals play a huge role in bringing bands together and events like these are often the best opportunity for both smaller and bigger bands to perform in front of a wider audience, especially with so many people traveling from all over the continent to attend.
For many bands, festivals are a key part of staying visible and reaching new fans. At the same time, club shows and smaller tours are just as important, because they allow for a closer connection with the audience. The challenge today is that there are so many bands and limited opportunities, so it’s more important than ever to be unique and deliver a great live experience.
We’re grateful for every chance to play live whether it’s a festival stage or a small club and we hope the European scene will keep growing and evolving in a positive direction.”

One thing that makes us very happy, as old Metal fans that we are, is that Within Silence still bets on the physical format, both in Compact Disc and Vinyl, what do you think about these formats and the digital edition? Do you think that the latter is going to end up imposing itself definitively?

“We’re really happy to hear that, thank you! Yes, we still believe in the value of physical formats like CDs and vinyl. There’s something special about holding a real album in your hands, looking at the artwork, reading the lyrics in the booklet. It creates a much deeper connection to the music. Especially in our genre, a lot of fans still appreciate the physical product as part of the full experience.
At the same time, we understand the importance of digital formats. Streaming and downloads are very convenient and make it easier to reach people all around the world. So we definitely see both formats as important. Digital might dominate the mainstream, but we don’t think physical formats will ever disappear completely, especially in the metal scene, where fans are often very loyal and value the physical side of music as a collector’s item and a form of support.
For us, it’s about giving fans the choice and we’re always happy when someone picks up a CD or vinyl and connects with the music in that tangible way.”

This is a question that is a little bit our trademark, and that we really like to ask to each of our interviewees. Beyond religion itself or religious institutions, what do you think of God?

“To me, God is everything. He gave meaning to my life and is deeply rooted in my very existence. Beyond religion or institutions, God is my strength, my hope, my closest friend—someone I can lean on in any situation. He is the silence within, the source of inspiration and peace that carries me through every moment.”

Of course, we thank you for taking the time to talk to us, and we hope that someday we will be able to see you playing live here. The last lines are for you to leave a message to Within Silence fans and Metal fans in general…

“Thank you so much for the interview and support. Hopefully, one day we’ll meet in person at a live show!
To all Within Silence fans and metal fans around the world – stay strong, never lose hope, and keep the fire of faith and passion burning in your hearts. God bless you!”
