Peter Espevoll, best known as the voice of the famous band Extol, is working on a project called InTheosis, in collaboration with Australian producer Jon Reichardt. Together, they have brought this idea to life, which differs from what we know of Espevoll from his long years with Extol.
To date, InTheosis has released three singles, with “Wolves And Vipers” being their fourth release and, according to Peter, a prelude to an album that will be released sometime in 2026.

Regarding InTheosis, we asked Espevoll what this project is about, and he told us that “InTheosis is a new modern metal project by myself and Australian producer Jon Reichardt. On paper it would seem like an unlikely fit, as we have found success in very different musical genres (Jon in hip hop and I in metal) but in reality the collaboration makes perfect sense. Despite living on opposite sides of the globe, we have more in common than most. Both are third culture kids having faced years of complex trauma respectively. Both experienced music as tormenter and healer. Both are learning how to live with the scars of the past, hoping to create meaning and solidarity from suffering.”; and continues to tell us that “InTheosis is the musical representation of this journey as we find solace in the ancient and sacred, but also the dissonant and jaded. Everything will be made beautiful in its time.”

Regarding “Wolves And Vipers” InTheosis’ new single, Peter says that “Wolves and Vipers is a direct confrontation—a searing indictment of power built on deceit, exploitation, and moral decay. With vivid imagery and emotionally charged vocals, the track tears into the facades of false idols and corrupt systems, issuing a warning of inevitable reckoning. This is not just music; it’s resistance. Musically, the single expands the InTheosis sound, exploring progressive rock textures while retaining the heaviness and atmosphere the band is known for. Dynamic shifts, layered guitar work, and unflinching lyrical delivery create an intense, immersive experience that invites listeners to feel, reflect, and confront. InTheosis has always been about more than just sound. We want to provoke thought and emotion—especially when facing the uncomfortable. Wolves and Vipers is a call to recognize the poison at the top and to stop feeding it.”
Of course, beyond InTheosis, having Peter Espevoll in a conversation inevitably leads to talk of Extol. First, Peter mentions that unlike the beloved Swedes, this new project “is leaning much more towards a modern metal sound. More groovy and “popy” riffs and melodies compared to Extol. Also incoporating quite a lot of synths”, And despite my skepticism about what will happen with Extol in the future, Peter bids us farewell with a hopeful note, “…There will be new music from Extol in not too distant future…”; Will it be?
In the meantime, I recommend you find out what InTheosis is all about. To do so, here are the links to their official social media accounts and, of course, their latest release, “Wolves And Vipers”…
