Jose Amurin, Formerly Of Logos, Tells Us About His New Project |

Salvaje Keeps The Essence Alive

Jose Amurin is well known in Argentina’s Heavy Metal scene, primarily for his role on Logos’ landmark album “La Industria Del Poder,” as well as for having played bass for the band since its inception.
After his time with Logos, he joined several different projects, but now it’s time for Salvaje, a band with which he’s currently performing live at various venues throughout Buenos Aires, featuring a stable lineup that includes Marcos Gonzalez on vocals, Israel on guitar, and Victor Pistillo on drums—along with, of course, Jose on bass.

Salvaje has adopted the phrase “La Esencia Latente” almost as a slogan, and this is logically tied to Logos. “We preserve the spirit and ethos of Logos—I say this with humility and reverence”, Jose told us. “That’s the band’s theme, and that’s what we’re all about.”
Apparently, Salvaje wasn’t a premeditated project or conceived as such. The former bassist for Logos told us the following about the band’s origins: “Salvaje kind of started by accident”, he told us, “A few years ago, we were invited to an event where Tano Marciello (formerly of Almafuerte) was playing at ‘City Bar’ in Martinez, and we went with Marcos (Gonzalez, the singer), a guitarist, and a drummer to play Logos songs at a benefit concert for a food bank in the province of Misiones. It all turned out really well, and the audience’s reaction was very positive, with great feedback—so much so that Marcos and I said, ‘We have to keep going.’ So we kept going, with a few changes, until the band solidified into its current lineup with Israel on guitar and Victor on drums.”

Everything suggests that Salvaje is just another band—one of the many that abound—dedicated to paying homage or paying tribute to a particular band (in this case, Logos), and in fact, José told us that, indeed, Salvaje naturally plays Logos songs live; “At our shows, we obviously play Logos songs because, well, I was the original bassist for Logos. It would be foolish to deny it, and also because of the message in those songs and that beautiful spirit that developed back in the day with Logos”, he told us.
In any case, Salvaje doesn’t dwell on the past or just reminisce about the good old days of Logos. The band is gradually adding new, original songs to its repertoire—something we were able to see for ourselves when we attended one of their shows this year at “El Amparo” in Burzaco. This proves that Salvaje isn’t just about nostalgia.
“We have several songs as of today”, José told us. “There are between 6 and 8 new songs, 4 or 5 of which we’re already playing live. There are also some really cool ideas that we still need to polish up. It’s all very difficult because we all live far apart, and that complicates rehearsals, but we’re still making good progress”, he said. The musical style isn’t much of a mystery; Salvaje plays traditional Heavy Metal, with that unmistakable connection to Logos. “One of our new songs is called ‘Salvaje,’ where the lyrics talk about ‘raising flags’; we raise flags of freedom.” There are other songs called “Cuenta Conmigo“,”Avanzar“, and “A No Caer“, and José also clarifies the band’s musical direction: “What comes out of us is, I think, the same style as Logos. It’s not like we’re trying to do that. It just comes out that way, as if it were a continuation of what Logos was, and that’s why we always say ‘La Esencia Latente’; it’s what comes from what you have inside and what you have to give. You can’t deny who you are.”

Salvaje has been playing a lot of live shows. They’ve been performing at various venues in Buenos Aires and the suburbs, humbly but steadily. It occurs to me that this would be a good time to consider the band heading into a recording studio. “We’re looking to start recording soon, and the idea is to really amp it up. That’s what everyone in the band wants”, José told us, but beyond that, the truth is that Salvaje has been posting quite a bit of footage from their shows on social media. “We’ve been recording live”, Amurín explains, “and we have the help of Karen, Israel’s (Salvaje’s guitarist) wife, who gives us a hand with that—with the videos and managing social media—as well as Emiliano and Fede Amurín. We’re like one big family. Emiliano, for example, recorded us playing at Marquee and is producing a video.”
