Crimson Moonlight is possibly one of the clearest references in Extreme Metal with Christian lyrics and content. At the very least, they are in the top five. Their evolution has been progressive, from their first steps in the late ’90s, through their first official album (“The Covenant Progress”) to their latest release. The Swedes have maintained a consistency that has taken their black metal to superlative levels.
Their latest release, the EP “Abbadon,” is a good demonstration of this. In just three new songs, Crimson Moonlight ran over everything in its path. Even so, the feeling that “Abbadon” left was one of wanting more. Well, it seems we’ll have to wait for the Swedes’ new release.

Last year, Simon Pilgrim Rosén, Crimson Moonlight’s vocalist, told us that the band was in the process of composing new songs, so a new album was on the horizon. Well, it seems that we will have to wait until at least 2027 for a new album. “We are currently working on some new material. There will be no release this year, but in 2027 it might happen”, Simon told us. Clearly, Crimson Moonlight is in no hurry to release anything new, which has been characteristic of their entire career if we consider the time between albums, which clearly shows how seriously they take each project.
Regarding the musical direction of Crimson Moonlight’s upcoming material, Simon Pilgrim Rosén assured us that “…the style of the new songs are in the same vein as Abaddon, but more intense and brutal…”; if you know what “Abbadon” is about, you know what he means. It’s hard to imagine anything much more powerful, but in any case, we’ll have to wait and see what it’s all about.
In that sense, and given the possibility that the band might release something or a new song on social media, as is often the case, Simon replied, “We don’t have any plans for that at the moment… but the year has just begun”, so who knows, maybe at some point during the year we’ll get a preview of what Crimson Moonlight is preparing.

The band has no plans to play live, at least not in the near future. Simon told us that Crimson Moonlight may play live in some shows after the summer of 2026 (the northern hemisphere summer, of course), but nothing has been confirmed or made official yet.
Crimson Moonlight showed off their mastery with “Divine Darkness” in 2016. They would later release the EP “Abbadon” in 2023, and as for a new album, it seems we will have to be patient, as there will be nothing new from the band until 2027. Their latest recording venture demonstrated all the power and fury that Crimson Moonlight can unleash, and it seems we should prepare ourselves for something much more intense…
