The Truth Behind The Breakup | Primal Comes To The End, And Glenn Rogers Explains Why

In this way, Primal—and in particular its guitarist Glenn Rogers—officially announced the end of the band, which got its start back in 2014 and was initially billed as the new project of Alberto Zamarbide (formerly of Logos and V8), who, alongside Rogers on guitar (formerly of Deliverance, Hirax, among others) and Jorge Iacobellis on drums (formerly of Hirax, among others), shaped Primal—a band concept centered on traditional Heavy Metal with certain Thrash Metal elements. Several musicians passed through the band, notably Cesar Ceregatti on bass, who joined in 2022.
Primal went on to release two full-length albums: “Primal” in 2016 and “Humachine” in 2023, as well as the EP “Iron Age” in 2025 and, finally, the compilation “Fin De Los Tiempos” this year, released exclusively for the Mexican market.
Here in Argentina, we had the opportunity to see Primal on several occasions. The last of these was in 2024, at “El Teatrito” in Buenos Aires. After that, aside from the occasional performance in the United States or Mexico, the band largely ceased its activities. However, Zamarbide’s work in 2025 and this year—on his solo project and and in revisiting key albums from the history of V8 and Logos led to several tours in Argentina, and this year also included a tour through several countries in the region.
“I have decided it’s time to move on. This is something that I feel is the right thing for me. We gave it a good go but like all things time never waits and I want to work on something new and closer to home. I’m just not going into to much detail because thats between the band. Sometimes things just don’t work anymore. So lets see whats next? I have new songs I’m working on and who knows what will happen. The Door Is Open”, Glenn Rogers posted on his social media accounts prior to the official announcement of Primal’s permanent breakup; official statements were also posted on the social media accounts of both Jorge Iacobellis and Cesar Ceregatti.
But since we don’t like to leave it at that, we wanted to dig a little deeper into the matter. That’s why we spoke with Glenn Rogers to learn a bit more about this unexpected ending—especially since the band had just released a new compilation CD and a new album was perhaps expected down the line. “There are a couple factors lead to this”, the guitarist told us. “The band is spread apart. So the distance between Miami and LA was becoming an issue for shows. Travel is so expensive now and promoters don’t pay enough to cover expenses”, explains Glenn Rogers.
However, that reason does not seem to be the only one that led to the project’s definitive breakup. It is well known that Zamarbide has been touring and performing, revisiting some timeless albums by V8 and Logos—his former bands—with a lineup different from that of Primal, both throughout 2025 and on the tour planned for 2026. “I have no problems if someone wants to do their own thing”, Rogers said on the matter, “But when we became the side project it started to build a resentment with a band member which led to the split up”, perhaps confirming what was already on the horizon regarding Primal’s future as a band. “Sometimes it’s best to part ways. Let everyone do their own thing”, were his words.
So far, we’ve only been able to read and hear from Glenn Rogers, Jorge Iacobellis, and Cesar Ceregatti. As for Beto Zamarbide, there has been silence so far. No statement or official announcement.
The only thing certain is that Primal has gone down in history, leaving behind a legacy of two great albums—their 2016 debut and 2023’s “Humachine”—as well as the EP “Iron Age” and the compilation “Tiempos Violentos.” The collaboration among the great musicians who made up Primal has come to an end, but of course, for Glenn Rogers, this isn’t the end of his own journey as a musician.
“I always write songs”, Glenn tells us. “I don’t have a new band yet but I have received some messages from musicians who are interested in working with me. Couple names you might know but I can’t say. So we will see”, was his cryptic reply. What’s next? Only time will tell. The important thing is that the former member of Hirax, Deliverance, Vengeance Rising, Viking, and so many other bands already has his sights set on his next project—and he has no intention of giving up just yet.
Naturally, many of us remember him for his time with Deliverance in the early days, and for having joined the band on occasion. That’s why it doesn’t seem far-fetched to us that Rogers might rejoin the band, even though he himself is quick to dispel any rumors. “Sorry but no Deliverance reunion that I know of”, he told us. “I did meet up with Jimmy Brown last April and we had a good time talking but no plans for Big D from what I know. But never say never!”, was his hopeful response.
In any case, and regardless of what the future holds for the guitarist, he suggests following his “Final Decree” Facebook page—which we’ve linked below—where Rogers will be sharing news and updates about his new venture.
Primal has come to an end. An ending that was perhaps foreseeable but, at the same time, unexpected. What remains are the albums, the songs, and above all, the memories of those of us who got to see them live—and that’s why we’re sharing one of their finest works here: the well-known “End Times,” in its Spanish-language version…
