Lázaro, the Argentine band that describes itself as “Hybrid Metal”—as they like to define themselves—breaks its silence with a special release, publishing its own version of the Iron Maiden classic “Wasted Years,” entirely in Spanish and titled “Años Desperdiciados.”
What stands out most about this unique cover is that Lázaro didn’t just simply cover the song as it was originally conceived; instead, they did it their own way and on their own terms—and in Spanish, adapting the lyrics of a true Iron Maiden classic to our language.

“Iron Maiden was always a band we liked,” Hernán Parafioriti told us, “…even though they’re not the style we’ve been doing, as such an important band with such excellent musicians and songs, we thought it would be a nice challenge to do a cover of a band like Iron Maiden”; acknowledging, in a way, that “Años Desperdiciados” wasn’t just a challenge for Lázaro, but also a chance to step a little outside their comfort zone, so to speak.
Hernán, Lázaro’s vocalist and bassist, also told us how this idea came together. “When Guido brought up the song, we had to figure out how we were going to approach it. First, we lowered it by two keys so that Guido could sing a Bruce Dickinson song—he’s a lyricist, and I’m a rough-and-tumble guy, hehe!!! Then we thought about slowing down the tempo to give it more groove and a little more breathing room, but at the same time we had to maintain the essence of the song—the elements that define it: the melody, the bass line, the riff. Anyway, we hope whoever listens enjoys a different take on a classic.”

But beyond “Años Desperdiciados,” we took the opportunity to discuss some aspects of Lázaro’s present and future. Lázaro’s lead singer shared his thoughts on the band’s upcoming shows in December 2025 and March 2026 in Buenos Aires, “It really made us want to keep performing,” Hernán acknowledges, “…it had been a long time since we’d played, and Ale Galiano’s proposal and the real possibility of doing it got us excited to prepare for these shows. It also left us with wonderful feelings—reconnecting with the audience, who are now like friends, playing and singing with passion songs that hold so much history for us, and also showcasing new material.” And indeed, we had the opportunity to attend both shows, and the truth is that on both dates, Lázaro proved they’re still going strong, with classic, powerful songs that remain as relevant as ever.
And if you weren’t able to attend those shows, there will be another chance. “We recently confirmed a date for December 12 at Gier Music in Colegiales. There aren’t any further details yet, but yes, we have that date set and we’re very excited,” Hernán Parafioriti confirmed to us. So that date will be the one to catch Lázaro live again—and maybe even hear something new. “We’re working on a new song,” was the cryptic response, so in addition to this premiere of the cover of Iron Maiden’s “Wasted Years,” it’s possible that we’ll have something new from Lázaro down the road.

And while we wait for official confirmation of the date announced for December, below you’ll find the official premiere of “Años Desperdiciados,” in a music video featuring footage of Lázaro performing live from the dates mentioned above, as well as links to their social media accounts, where the band’s latest news is announced…
