New Album Available From July This Year | “What Planet Are You From?” Is the Title of Galactic Cowboys’ New Album
“Cosmic Kite…what planet did you come from?” said the radio commentator during Diego Maradona’s famous goal against England at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico. I don’t think the soccer and World Cup has anything to do with this, but the title of the Galactic Cowboys’ new album reminded me of that iconic phrase that gives us Argentines great memories.
And as if by a twist of fate or simply by mere coincidence, in the same year that man returned to the moon (at least to orbit it), Galactic Cowboys already have the follow-up to “Long Way Back To The Moon” ready—their last album, released in 2017.

Because yes, after a long wait and a lot of water under the bridge, we can now say that the new album by the Galactic Cowboys (the Argentine equivalent of “Cowboys”) is about to drop. It’s been quite a while since GC’s last official release, and this new recording took its time—and a lot happened in the meantime.
“We actually started recording it over a year ago”, Monty Colvin, the band’s bassist, told us. “We recorded the drums and bass guitar in San Antonio Texas, with a new drummer, Johnny Simmons. Johnny’s drum tracks were amazing, but a week later we got the tragic news that he had passed away. It was a true shock to all of us, and we will forever miss Johnny. His tracks remain on all the songs and we dedicate the album to him. His drumming brought a whole new energy and power to our sound. In some ways, this is the way I had always wanted us to sound, and Johnny helped make that happen.”

Monty Colvin also adds that the production of this album took them through various studios and locations. “We recorded the remainder of the album in Houston and some parts in Nashville, TN and the tracks were mixed in San Antonio”, he told us, and most importantly, “At this point as I speak, the album is being manufactured and we plan on releasing it in July of this year”; so it won’t be long before we find out what the Galactic Cowboys’ new masterpiece is all about.
Is there anyone who doesn’t know what the Galactic Cowboys are all about? Precisely, the hard part is defining them with a single label. Metal, Rock, Funk, Thrash, Beatles-style vocal harmonies, a touch of psychedelia, a dash of humor, and so on. Since their debut album in 1991, the band has released one great album after another, deepening their unique style that makes them incomparable to any other group.
2026 marks the release of their eighth studio album. “What Planet Are You From?” is the title, as confirmed by Monty Colvin, who also took the opportunity to share some details with us.

“I would say this album is much like our first 2 or 3 albums. It’s a combination of Metal riffs and big vocal choruses…which I would say pretty much defines the classic Galactic Cowboys sound”, he agreed with us, but he also added that “I would also say this album is one of the best sounding releases we’ve even done. Drums, bass, guitars are all just smashing you in the face. There will be 11 songs and a couple bonus tracks, and once again, I think it’s some of the best songs we’ve ever done!”
Surely, if you’re someone who’s enjoyed the Galactic Cowboys’ early albums, you know exactly what Monty Colvin, their longtime bassist, is talking about. Both their debut album, “Machine Fish” and “Space In Your Face” defined the band’s classic sound in some way and are their definitive hallmark, even though the band has never stopped experimenting with their sound. One thing is certain. Nothing stops the Galactic Cowboys, and they don’t seem to have any commitments to anything or anyone. In short, they do what they want, and that is one of their defining traits and something that defines them from head to toe. Surely “What Planet Are You From?” will be no exception.

But even so, the picture isn’t complete unless the band goes out and plays live, and surely more than a year spent producing “What Planet Are You From?” has the guys itching to get back on stage and showcase the new material live. “Yes, we definitely plan to play this new stuff live”, Monty Colvin told us, adding, “I’m really looking forward to getting out there again and playing for people!”, but in any case, the band has a few things to sort out. “We are presently looking for a new drummer, and then we plan to start booking some shows. I can’t say when, or how many shows we will do”, the longtime Galactic Cowboys bassist told us.
The album cover hasn’t been revealed yet. It’s almost certain to be another creation by Monty Colvin, who, in addition to playing bass for GC, is also a talented visual artist, having created all the band’s album covers and designs.
The countdown has begun. The launch of the Galactic Cowboys’ new chapter is already on the horizon. In July, “What Planet Are You From?” will be released, and of course, we’ll be there to welcome it with open arms…

And while we wait, we’ve included below one of their latest official music videos, from the album “Long Way Back To The Moon.” More specifically, the track “Zombies,” and of course, the links to follow Galactic Cowboys on social media and stay tuned for when the new album is available…
