Those who know and follow the German band Sacrificium know that they are not in the habit of releasing albums every year in sequence. Consider that the band has been around since 1993, and since then, they released their first album (“Cold Black Piece Of Flesh”) in 2002, and from then until now, they have only released four more albums and one EP.
In fact, their last album was “Oblivion”, released in 2023. Still, that doesn’t mean Sacrificium is a band that sits still. Quite the contrary. Their live performances and appearances at various festivals give them a permanent presence on the scene.
In any case, in early 2025, Sacrificium released a new song, released as a digital single on major platforms. “Laid To Unrest,” featuring Theo Georgitsaros (vocalist for Darkness Ablaze), was released in February 2025.

But the fact is that we had the opportunity to exchange a few words with Claudio Enzler, Sacrificium’s vocalist, about the band’s current situation and what lies ahead. In relation to “Laid To Unrest,” and what we might think is a preview of an upcoming album, he told us that “Laid to Unrest” and other songs we haven’t released yet were part of the extended selection for our last album Oblivion. However, we felt that this track didn’t quite fit with the overall song selection for the album, so we decided to release it later as a single and is not meant as a preview for an upcoming album.”
Claudio also took the opportunity to delve deeper into “Laid To Unrest”; “We wrote this song because we know that many people know the struggle—the unrest that even death cannot silence. “Laid to Unrest” is a cry from the darkness, a picture of the soul searching for peace and failing to find it. But we believe: true rest doesn’t come from our own strength, but through Christ. Every riff carries the tension between despair and hope, between the grave and resurrection. That’s our message—brutal, honest, and filled with light breaking through the darkness.”

Logically, the question is whether Sacrificium is thinking about the successor to “Oblivion,” and Sacrificium’s vocalist replied that “Sacrificium has never been a band focused on quantity. It was never about releasing as many records as possible, but about substance—words that carry weight”, and expands on the concept by explaining that “Every lyric is personal, telling stories of experiences we’ve lived through or themes that deeply concern us. We turn these thoughts into songs to share them with our listeners—even if that sometimes causes friction. People have expectations shaped by their own ideals, but we don’t shy away from any topic. We speak plainly, even when our approach isn’t met with universal approval. Death Metal is emotional music, rebellious since its very beginning. Ugly truths don’t become beautiful just because you talk about them nicely—and that’s the core of our message.”
In any case, Claudio gave us a preview of Sacrificium’s next steps, clarifying that there will be no new album, at least until 2027. “We’re currently working on a new record and have 16 song ideas, some of which still need to be fully developed. Our rough plan is to have the album recorded by the end of 2026. Of course, it will take some time after that to get everything sorted with the label and set a final release date, but I’m confident that by mid-2027 we’ll have a new album out.

At the time, we had the opportunity to get hold of “Oblivion”, Sacrificium’s latest album to date, and we clearly liked it. In our review, we pointed out Sacrificium’s tendency not to limit themselves to Death Metal, but to draw on other genres, sounding modern without losing their identity. Claudio Enzler gives us his opinion on this: “Sacrificium has always drawn influences from various areas of Death Metal. For example, on “Escaping the Stupor” we had songs that could easily be classified as Melodic Death Metal, and some people even see parallels to Metalcore there”, and quickly clarifies that “Sacrificium will always remain a band rooted in old-school Death Metal with all its branches, because that’s what we love and what defines our musical vision for the band.”
Although Sacrificium takes its time releasing each album, the band is very active when it comes to live shows. In 2024 and 2025, they played several shows, and Claudio told us that “Live shows are an essential part of being in a band, and personally, I love being on stage—entertaining people with our music and having great conversations before and after the concerts. That’s why we’ll keep striving to play live, but we also carefully consider what makes sense for us as a band and whether it aligns with our vision.”

And as if that weren’t enough, it seems that Sacrificium has every intention of doing something big once their next album is released. “For the album release in 2027, we’re already thinking about a European tour and possibly returning to Central or South America. In general, we’re open to all inquiries, so anyone who wants to book us is welcome to reach out—whether it’s a club show or a festival. Of course, the financial aspect always plays a role, but it’s not the decisive factor, because other things matter more to us when it comes to a concert.”

It will be a matter of patience. Sacrificium takes things seriously, and those of us who know them know that each of their albums is an explosion of strength, power, and fury, in every sense of the word. In the meantime, we recommend not only listening to their latest album, “Oblivion”, but also their latest single, “Laid To Unrest”, a powerful demonstration of what Sacrificium is all about. And, of course, we recommend following them on social media to stay up to date not only on the band’s shows, but also on their latest news…
