No. 2 - September 1996 | De Delfines y Dragones
Without fear of being mistaken, De Delfines y Dragones was the first zine in Argentina dedicated exclusively to White Metal. Without much space in the mainstream media, Christian metal began, in the mid-90s, to timidly emerge from the shadows where it had always been hidden, and this project was one of the most serious attempts to report and inform about the scene. Created by a group of young men (who are now around 50 years old and older), more precisely Damian Sileo, Gabriel Stopper, and Javier Dinovitzer, De Delfines y Dragones brought quality information, news that was almost impossible to find at the time, interesting interviews, reviews of albums, concerts, etc. All presented with the highest editorial quality, proving that you don’t need a big budget to produce interesting content.
De Delfines y Dragones didn’t last long. Perhaps the lack of support, financial backing, and the thousand and one variables that can occur in a country like Argentina meant that this zine didn’t have a long life. It’s a shame, but its influence has been felt, and at least this writer was partly influenced by these crazy guys to create this webzine. Today, it is cult material and almost archaeological. We don’t know the circulation of the zine, but it was certainly not many copies, so the chance of physical copies existing today is unlikely. As luck would have it, we have our own copy, so as a kind of tribute to these pioneers in the field, we are uploading a PDF copy of issue 2, corresponding to September 1996, for download.
This issue has some interesting things to highlight. In addition to news, album reviews, reflections, etc., it contains an interesting interview with Miguel Roldan from Logos, a biography of Tourniquet, a note about Guardian and their album in Spanish, etc. In this edition, we can see the quality of the information, the writing, and the rather relaxed vibe of the zine. As a side note, the cost was 1 Argentine peso at the time, which was equivalent to 1 US dollar. Crazy.
Therefore, as a tribute to these crazy people and also so we don’t forget who started this, we are making our copy of issue 2 of the zine De Delfines y Dragones, published in September 1996, exactly 29 years ago, available for download in PDF format.
