(2025 – Tharseo Music Records)

In general, Heavy Metal is an expression of various feelings, but it is difficult to express them in the way they are so explicitly expressed in “Tiempo Perdido?”, the most beloved album by Ícaro, the legendary traditional Heavy Metal band from Argentina. Having been out of print, its reissue is not only very wise, but almost necessary for all of us who love metal.
“Tiempo Perdido?” was released in 2005 and, over time, went out of print, becoming a cult album. Now it is back on the market in physical format, in a new edition through the band’s own independent label, Tharseo Music Records, through which it releases its stuff. This new version not only includes the 10 original tracks, but also adds some demos and the acoustic version of “Mi Fiel Verdad,” recorded in 2023, as bonus tracks. A unique feature is that the album presents the first 5 tracks as the ‘Heavy’ side and the last 5 tracks as the “Metal” side.

“Tiempo Perdido?” is a catalog of different feelings, expressed in each of the tracks that comprise it, which is why, in my opinion, we can find a different sensation in each song. This is one of the unique features that make this album special and perhaps Ícaro’s most solid work in their discography. Musically, the band is rooted in traditional heavy metal with a lot of 80s influence, lots of riffs, heavy bases, and chord melodies.
The album opens with the intro “El Camino Más Difícil” (The Hardest Way), which blends into “Espirítu Guerrero” (Warrior Spirit), one of Ícaro’s best songs, where the band delivers one of the many metal anthems on the album. “Dentro de Vos” (Inside You) is a semi-stuck march with a very characteristic riff and lyrics that pierce you from head to toe. In a very Dio vein, we find “Muriendo De A Pie,” where Ícaro delves into a social theme such as injustice. “Luz En La Oscuridad” is another monumental blast of traditional heavy metal where the message of fighting for life is made more than clear.
The ballad “Mi Fiel Verdad” is impressive, one of the great songs on the album and an Ícaro classic, and what can we say about “Muerte Al Falso Metal,” a true declaration of principles and a denunciation for whoever fits the bill to take it on!
In “Ícaro” we have another of the traditional metal anthems that characterize the band, and with “Tiempo Perdido,” the title track of the album, we have perhaps the most introspective moment of the album, with excellent guitar work, a great string arrangement, and a melody that makes it one of the most distinctive tracks on the album. Finally, we have the song, “Como Un Kamikaze”, a great way to close the album, and a tribute to a fundamental band of the ’80s in Argentina as was Kamikaze.
Among the bonus tracks, as we mentioned earlier, are two demo-rehearsal versions of the songs “Ícaro” and “Luz En La Oscuridad” dating from 2004, which, thanks to their inclusion, allow us to compare the “official” versions with the original sound of these songs. The 2023 version of “Mi Fiel Verdad” is impressive, not only because it was performed by a more current lineup of Ícaro, with a much more modern sound, but without taking away from or adding to the essence of the song, as a kind of showcase of Ícaro’s current sound.
This new edition maintains the original sound of the album, which, it must be said, has a very good mix and sound engineering, highlighting that the result is natural with the band’s sound, which is already powerful and metallic, as it should be.

Graphically, it has the same cover that the album was already known for, containing the lyrics to the songs, some very good photos, and the corresponding technical data. The back cover features a collage of different flyers and the cover of the well-known fanzine Metalica, in which Ícaro was featured on the cover. We also liked the design of the compact disc, which simulates a kind of vinyl record.
As always, we applaud reissues, especially in this case, of an album that had not been available in physical format for a long time, and with the addition of some bonus tracks that make it much more attractive from a musical point of view. Ícaro, and especially “Tiempo Perdido?” deserved a new edition, and this is a new excuse to get your hands on a legendary album in the history of Spanish Metal, which, as an added bonus, is an excellent work.
