Lörihen: La Magia Del Caos | Between Magic, Chaos And Maturity
(2023 – Virtual Records/2M Producciones)
Is it fair to say that Lörihen must be one of the most underrated bands in the Metal scene? They always had the sound, the songs and a professionalism worthy of the first leagues, but, they could never transcend beyond the underground. I mean, those of us in Metal, we know and know Lörihen but the truth is that the band always had everything it takes to be more than a recognized band in the circuit but, mysteries we will never know, the band remains in the underground, even with releases with a great quality. It seems that recognition on a larger scale is a long time coming.
One of the things to note about Lörihen is that with each new album, they surpass themselves and never sound the same. It is true, sometimes there are line-up changes involved, as it happens to be in this case, but at home, the results are always better than the previous one. That has a lot to do with the tandem Lucas Gerardo – Emiliano Obregon, which is already a trademark of the band. The combination between Gerardo’s excellent vocals and the solid work of a guitarist like Obregon gives a special air to each song on this album.

“La Magia Del Caos” offers us a rather mature album, with songs closer to a melodic Hard Rock/Metal and more and more distant from the incipient and accelerated Power Metal of the early days. However, Lörihen does not completely renounce to its old essence and that is reflected in songs like “Fantasmas Del Ayer”, where Walter Meza from Horcas participates as a guest, or perhaps “Gritos De Libertad” and “Golpe A Golpe” could be the link that unites this current version of Lörihen with its past laurels. There is time for a ballad in “Ya Nada Queda”, or that sort of hymn “Rescatame”. Very interesting is “Frías Islas”, with lyrics rooted in the Malvinas war and with an atrocious description of the war from the eyes of a soldier’s family. A truly chilling song. With “Mágica Mujer” and “Un Santo En Este Infierno”, we have the most current Lörihen, with a more melodic base and an updated sound. We especially liked “No Voy A Parar” and the song that opens the album, “Vencedor En La Derrota”, one of those classic Lörihen-like starts.
Regarding the lyrics and themes in “La Magia Del Caos”, we see as always an excellent pen, both in the composition and in the concept, with personal topics in a positive tone. Interesting, as we had already mentioned, the powerful lyrics of “Frías Islas”.
I like it when there is a common thread between the songs, the audio, the album artwork, etc. and each part is part of an interesting combo. Of course, the cover is impressive, as well as the graphic concept of the entire inner envelope of the album, which instead of having photographs of the band, has illustrations of each member, keeping a logic with the idea that is sought to convey. In addition, the sound production in general, as usual in Lörihen, is excellent. The recording was done between April 2022 and December 2023, in the band’s own studios, having been mixed and mastered by Emiliano Obregón himself, an eminence in the matter, assisted by Christian Abarca, Leo Dobao and Juan Pablo Kilberg. The result cannot be less than excellent.

With a total of 10 tracks only, “La Magia Del Caos” turns out to be an interesting album, without gaps, direct and with good songs. Perhaps the album does not have the pretension of being a classic of the band, but it is a good testimony of the band’s actuality, achieving to shape in short, a good work.
