Diaconisa is a conceptual musical project led by Ceb Theory, a self-taught guitarist with a career that began in the late 90’s and an old warrior of the scene. Linked to metal in its multiple facets (death, metalcore, nu metal), Ceb Theory has been part of several bands and projects, starting as a teenager with O.N.Faith and then Derecho de Sangre, releasing 3 productions. He continued, among other projects, with the innovative group D.E.D., whose proposal of “Argentinien Experimental Death Metal” was distributed digitally by the Australian label Soundmass.
After years of exploring extreme sounds, Diaconisa was born as a more conceptual and ambitious proposal. The project debuted with the Ep “Omen”, composed of 4 tracks performed by vocalist Mariela Pachinik (Elodia and other bands). After a decade, overcoming the difficulties that held back the release of the full album, Ceb Theory, with renewed determination, took up the idea and restructured the album, involving a variety of artists and collaborators who contributed their talents to realize “Corona de Espinas”, their first album, features a diverse vocal team:

  • Denisse Ferrara (Lead).
  • Julia Sergent (Acroma, Chaos Rising).
  • Federico Vogliolo (Lex Talion, Nemrod).
  • Mariela Pachinik (Elodia).
  • Additional voices by Ceb Theory.

“Corona de Espinas” is a concept album that goes through the life of Jesus, from the prophecy of the Prince of Peace to his Resurrection. Composed by 13 tracks, it goes through genres such as melodic metal, doom, rock and death, achieving an emotive and powerful fusion that captures the essence of their narrative.
We had the opportunity to listen to “Corona de Espinas”, in digital format, and the project is not only ambitious, but it promises a lot. Their proposal goes through the side of Extreme Metal, interspersed with a “gothic” air and sounds borrowed from various influences such as Industrial Metal or even Nû Metal. It reminds us a bit of early Therion and the band Saviour Machine. Diaconisa plays from one side to the other in an album built thematically between each track, with the appropriate atmosphere for each part of the story that the album tells. This characteristic can be appreciated in tracks like “Beth Lehem”, “Del Principio A La Eternidad” or “Un Denario Para El Cesar” or “La Copa Mas Amarga”. As it can be noticed, Diaconisa manages to diversify its proposal in the same album with different climates. There are also the instrumentals “Inri” and “Milagros Y Maravillas” that fit perfectly with the rest of the songs, in a sort of bridge between different moments. The end with “Transcendental, Profecía Cumplida” keeps the best of this work, in a final that is also a kind of summary of all this interesting work.
In short, we have an album, completely produced and developed at home, with all the effort that implies, but that shows us a promising proposal for the future.
