Pasco 637 Presents “Habemus Pasco” | Cinematic Metal
When we refer to “cinematic,” we’re not talking about some strange experiment related to metal (of which there are plenty), but rather that Pasco 637 is the band led by Demian Rugna, a film director who divides his time between cinema and Metal. He is the very same director behind the well-known films “Cuando Acecha La Maldad” (“When Evil Lurks”) and “Aterrados” (“Terrified”), who, in addition to dedicating time to film, also plays guitar in Pasco 637—a band worth paying attention to.
The band has carved out its own path and history on the local scene, with a career spanning nearly 30 years, during which its lyrics have explored social struggles and the suburban landscape. The band got its start in 1998 when Demian Rugna joined forces with Juan Manuel Delgado and Jerónimo Deiras (all friends from high school), initially going by various names before finally deciding to pay tribute to the band’s alma mater: “Tata,” Demián’s theatrical and colorful grandmother, who had been hosting several generations of rockers in her home since the mid-1960s, when Rugna’s own father formed his first band, establishing the house as a gathering place in the western part of Buenos Aires for young hippies of that generation marked by rebellion and the dictatorship.
For this reason, they decided to name the band after the address of this legendary house, where they got their start as a band, supported by the legendary and fondly remembered “Tata” at every rehearsal and gathering: PASCO 637. The group consists of the aforementioned Demián Rugna on guitar, Jerónimo Deiros on vocals, Juan Manuel Delgado on guitar, Ariel Simonetti on bass, and Walter Sosa on drums.
The band acknowledges a variety of influences, notably bands from both the ’80s and ’90s—such as Megadeth, Metallica, Guns N’ Roses, Iron Maiden, and Pantera—as well as local acts like Hermética and Almafuerte. This is clearly evident in Pasco 637’s music, a style that defies easy definition and is difficult to categorize, as the band plays a kind of heavy, intense, and ferocious hard rock with a strong metal influence. They have released a significant amount of material, available on digital platforms, so you can hear what they’re all about.
In fact, from their founding until 2004, Pasco 637 recorded and released several demos. After a 10-year hiatus, the band returned to the scene with new songs and reworkings of tracks from their early days. Finally, in 2019, they released their first album, titled “Eterno En El Tiempo,” featuring seven tracks.
Given Pasco 637’s connection to the world of cinema, it’s no surprise that they’ve contributed to several movie soundtracks—including the 2016 film “No Sabes Con Quien Estás Hablando,” the 2021 film “Bienvenidos Al Infierno,” and the 2023 film “Cuando Acecha La Maldad,” for which they covered the classic song of the same name by Logos. For this reason, they’ve been invited to various film festivals to perform songs from these movies and from their own repertoire.
Without “Nely,” their grandmother, who passed away in 2017, the members of Pasco 637—now a bit more mature—have found the motivation, enthusiasm, and experience to begin establishing themselves as a band while stepping up their efforts to finalize their new repertoire. In that vein, they’ve just released three new tracks on digital platforms, each accompanied by its own music video, so you can check out what’s new from Pasco 637.
So, “El De Salida”—in addition to featuring an incredible music video—is a powerful track packed with riffs, a heavy sound, and that distinct Argentine metal vibe from start to finish, and with “Creencias Blindadas,” Pasco 637 leans more toward chords reminiscent of thrash metal and certain elements characteristic of Argentine heavy metal, featuring contemporary lyrics with a clear social focus. Finally, we have a new acoustic version of their cover of Logos’ “Cuando Acecha La Maldad,” reaffirming Pasco 637’s connection to and identity within the Argentine metal scene.
And to properly showcase their new material, Pasco 637 is preparing a special show for August 7 at 11:30 p.m. at “Lucille Bar,” Gorriti 5520, Palermo, CABA. This event will mark the official debut of “Habemus Pasco”—a great opportunity to witness a tremendous metal show, where Pasco 637 will perform their new repertoire along with the band’s classics.
