Dichotomy Presents “Lucifer Owns The Fence” | The Death Metal We Love
I once heard some idiot say that Death Metal had no future, that it was a genre stuck in the ’80s and mainly in the ’90s. Fortunately, there are bands and projects like Dichotomy, which, contrary to what one might think, not only breathe new life into the genre but also carry on its important legacy.
The topic at hand is “Lucifer Owns The Fence,” the debut album by Dichotomy, a project presented as a one-man band—in this case, Jordan Varela, who plays all the instruments and handles all the vocals.
And who is Jordan Varela, you may be wondering. Well, the first thing to clarify is that Jordan Varela is no stranger to Death Metal; its essence runs through his veins. He is the drummer for the devastating band Lust Of Decay, the multi-instrumentalist responsible for the ferocious music of Shuriken Cadaveric Entwinement, and a former member of Lividity, one of the legends of brutality. And those are just some of his most notable achievements in the scene. So, when Varela announces a new solo project, a new album overflowing with rampant Death Metal riffs, firmly anchored to the roots of the genre but hitting with a powerful contemporary impact.

Such is the case with “Lucifer Owns The Fence,” which will be officially released on July 3, 2026, and thanks to the folks at Rottweiler Records, we can hear it before its official release.
This Dichotomy release is a true invitation to old-school Death Metal, with a touch of groove and even grindcore, yet maintaining the genre’s essence, featuring a guttural voice that breaks the mold and gives each of the nine tracks a unique personality.
The first impression upon listening to “Lucifer Owns The Fence” is that it leaves nothing unscathed. With a truly devastating sound, Dichotomy is a weapon that fires so relentlessly that it’s not recommended for sensitive listeners.
“He Is” is the album’s opening track and lead single, where Jordan Varela showcases the powerful atmosphere that Dichotomy is capable of creating. The riffs fly amidst complex chords and furious blast beats. “Antithesis” follows the same line, though with a structure where every percussion hit marks Dichotomy’s killer rhythm.
This album offers no respite whatsoever, and so “What A God” resonates with full fury, while “The Fence” leans more toward Thrash Metal, though essentially remaining rooted in the world of Death Metal. Something similar happens with “Better To Be Drowned With A Millstone Around The Neck,” a title as long as it is crushing.
On top of all this, speed and fury are a constant in every one of Dichotomy’s tracks, and we can follow that closely in songs like “The Perseverance” or “The Greatest Lie Ever Told,” another tremendous blast that ends with a bloodcurdling scream.
The final part of the album is marked by “Through Christ We Live” and “Satan Will Kill You,” two more tremendous bangers that confirm what I thought from the start: this is the real deal!!!! Dichotomy attempts, in a way, to revive the old-school Death Metal sound, with an album full of killer riffs, chords driven by every beat of the drums, and a raw, hard, and wild sound. The feeling is that Dichotomy never turns down the volume.

A special mention goes to Jordan Varela’s distinctive guttural vocals. Far from copying styles—whether you like it or not—what cannot be disputed is that his vocal style has its own identity and is one of the main characteristics that sets Dichotomy apart as a band to watch.
Every note, every beat, every heart-wrenching roar on “Lucifer Owns The Fence” is the work of Jordan Varela, and that unique vision, purpose, and interpretation have resulted in one of the most formidable and accomplished albums of his career.
“Lucifer Owns The Fence” will be released by Rottweiler Records on July 3, and while we wait for its official release, we’re sharing the lead single from the album, “He Is,” to give you a taste of what’s to come. Of course, we’re also sharing Dichotomy’s social media links so you can follow this project closely and stay updated on the latest news…
