We’re always on the lookout for new, exciting things that touch the very depths of the soul—but always within the realm of metal, of course. And in that search, we’ve come across a band that’s sure to make waves, especially given their upcoming album, “The Burden of Storms”, which is set to be released on November 20 via Nordic Mission—and man, is it worth the wait!!!

But first, let’s talk about Omegashift—a Norway-based band that made its debut with the album “Doctrine of Dust”, a self-released record with just five songs (almost an EP, you could say) that marked the beginning of something that looks set to be big.
Their style and sound are rooted in Melodic Doom Metal with a certain epic—and even gothic, if you will—flavor, musically speaking. With heavy, dense guitar sounds and Jorunn Aateigen’s distinctive vocals, Omegashift stands out as something unique within the genre. The band is rounded out by Martin Rafoss on bass, Yngve Moum Jacobsen on drums, and Anders Elle and Bjørnar Moum Jacobsen on guitars.
Musically, Omegashift build from a foundation of Melodic Doom, Metal and Hard Rock, adding unexpected turns, eccentricity and Jorunn’s distinctive vocals to create something deliberately difficult to categorise. The band have little interest in following current trends or writing music that reveals everything immediately. Instead, these are songs designed to grow with repeated listens.

Listening to “Doctrine Of Dust” already gives us a sense of where Omegashift draws its style and sound from. Nothing modern or artificial—just the creativity and originality to craft mind-blowing songs, with powerful guitar riffs and heavy basslines that underscore their roots in doom metal, although, of course, it’s not that easy to pigeonhole the band into a single genre.
“There is nothing straightforward with Omegashift. We do turns and probably backwards flips sometimes, but the final product is 100% us, with a lot of heart, feelings, heaviness and a desire to leave something positive in the world”, the band says.
In that sense, “Doctrine Of Dust” emerged at the time as something original and completely sincere, with a crushing and devastating sound in our opinion—but that’s just the beginning.
Omegashift has announced the imminent release of their new album, titled “The Burden Of Storms,” set for November 20, and ahead of that release, they released “While Men Slept” as a lead single—the opening track of the album—which proves to be a song that sweeps you away from the very first moment, with a heavy, dense, mid-tempo yet powerful foundation, heavily influenced by Classic Metal.

But soon, ahead of the album’s official release, the band plans to release another lead single: “Dwell Suspended”, which is described as a heavy song, with a crushing heavy back bone, delivered the Omegashift way; strong vocal, organic feel, all done by humans for humans.
This statement is almost a manifesto for OmegaShift when it comes to championing music crafted by hand, by humans, and without the intervention of anything foreign to human talent. In fact, you only need to listen to any of their songs to realize just how natural OmegaShift sounds.
In fact, the band says that “The Burden Of Storms” is an organic, deeply human record built on interaction rather than perfection.
Recorded without a click track, without Auto-Tune or drum quantization, and with 100% real drums, “The Burden Of Storms” captures the authentic sound of OmegaShift when they play together. Each member brings their own personality, influences, and imperfections to the music, creating something that feels alive rather than artificially polished.
“This is a mirrored image of what we can do, not what we can’t”, the band explain, “With heart, flaws and years of consuming music, The Burden Of Storms is the collective core of the five members, each member contributing their personal piece of the puzzle”, they say.

Omegashift plays Melodic Doom with Metal and Hard Rock as the foundation, and mixes in a little eccentricity and tops it all off with a distinctive female vocal. Uniqueness and difference are key words that can describe the band.
“The Burden Of Storms” will be released soon, and in the meantime, we’ve included the single “While Men Slept” below—a track as overwhelming as they come—which, in a way, gives us a preview of what this new Omegashift album will be like.
