There are currently hundreds of bands drawing from the Metalcore subgenre, a style that has been drawing on various different elements in recent years—a trend that has kept it relevant and brought together many bands that are quite different from one another.
Amid this scene emerges The Light Superior, a band that seems to be heading in a different direction—or at least trying to do things in a way that sets them apart from the crowd—and the truth is that, judging by their debut album, titled “Dayspring”, it looks like a worthwhile gamble.
The story of The Light Superior began in Amarillo, Texas in 2018 where the band quickly built a reputation as an incendiary live unit, appearing alongside established names like We Came As Romans, Of Mice & Men and The Browning during the very early days of their career.

The band quickly drew the attention of Rottweiler Records and unleashed their fiery first EP, “I AM”, through the label in 2022. The outstanding single, “Tidal Wave”, followed in 2024 and then, after some vital line-up changes, two more brilliant singles landed in 2025 – “Dark Moon” and the special Halloween release, “Ghost”. These singles have all stoked the fires of anticipation for a full-length debut album from The Light Superior – each one of them delivering masterful Metalcore at the absolute peak of the genre’s power and potential, as announced.
Now is the time for their first full-length album, “Dayspring”. And now, finally, the wait is over, and The Light Superior are ready to present “Dayspring”, an album that seems to offer us something different.
First off, it must be said that what we hear on “Dayspring” has a different feel to it. “The Light Superior” is characterized by a distinct, more atmospheric and moody vibe, with a strong emphasis on the heavy, mechanical guitar riffs typical of industrial Metal, but with the structure of Metalcore and the occasional influence from the now-vintage “nu metal”—even featuring some passages where guitar solos appear unexpectedly.
In any case, the overall tone is melodic and melancholic, blending perfectly with the atmosphere created by the heavy, powerful foundation; and amid breakdowns, growls, and clean vocals, The Light Superior’s vision is realized almost flawlessly.
“Dayspring” also features seven tracks, including “Genesis”, a dense and slow opener, with the heavy rhythm section taking center stage over an orchestral backdrop that lends an ambient feel perfectly suited to the atmosphere The Light Superior brings to their sound. Next up is the driving “Ghost”, featuring choruses that fit like a glove for a song that’s heavy and deep enough.

“Dark Moon” features heavy, driving rhythms, moves at a moderate pace, and is thoroughly atmospheric, followed by the album’s title track, “Dayspring”, featuring Glenn Gizzi as a guest artist. This track stands out as one of The Light Superior’s most ambitious compositions and, perhaps for that very reason, serves as one of the album’s standout tracks.
“Solid Ground” maintains that signature melodic spirit at its core, but it’s nuanced by the now-classic pounding riffs and heavy basslines that The Light Superior imprints on their music, along with choruses destined to be potential hits, while “Revelation” reveals itself (pardon the redundancy) as a true battle cry—in the metalcore style, of course—but one that doesn’t lose any of its power or conviction.
To wrap things up, we come to a beautiful track—and perhaps the best on the album. We’re talking about “Dark Moon Reimagined”, featuring Drive Thru Society, in a superb acoustic and orchestral rendition. It’s deeply sentimental and brimming with emotion. It’s the perfect way to close out an album that holds enough promise to keep you on the lookout for more.
By the way, The Light Superior consists of Michael Grice on vocals, Matt Grice on guitar and backing vocals, Chris Torres on the other guitar, and Giovanni Alvarez Gimenez on drums. Did anyone even play bass? The truth is that the sound is absolutely overwhelming, with guitars front and center in a tone that makes you almost forget the bass is there. If we add to that the relentless drum beats and the almost constant use of the double pedal in certain passages, it’s likely there’s no bass at all—which is a distinct possibility.
In any case, “Dayspring” is produced by Glenn Gizzi, a founding member of the band Phinehas, who gave the album that highly mechanized sound—harsh at times, yet also full of ambient and orchestral landscapes.

The fact is that October 2 is the date marked on the calendar for the official release of “Dayspring”, The Light Superior’s first official album, via the well-known label Rottweiler Records. As a preview of what this new material will be like, here’s their lead single—which is, in fact, the title track, “Dayspring”— and of course, below you’ll find the social media handles for both Rottweiler Records and The Light Superior so you can follow them and stay up to date on the latest news…
