The Union Makes the Strength…
“And whosoever shall exalt himself shall be abased; and he that shall humble himself shall be exalted”—a recurring phrase from Jesus Christ and a great truth that we sometimes forget. A truth that should really be one of the cornerstones of everyone’s life, but which we often apply only in words, not in our actions. Interestingly, both the terms “humiliation” and “humility” are related to one another. While they do not have exactly the same meaning, what’s interesting is that they share a common etymological root; however, “humiliation” seems to imply an external attitude, whereas “humility” implies something internal. They are two facets of the same issue.
It’s an interesting topic, especially because it’s in our attitudes and what we convey through our actions that the real meaning lies. Not so much in what is said, although, of course, words always hide some meaning that is also conveyed in some way.
We live in a time when social media is a true reflection of many of these things—words spoken, replies, posts, and so on. And of course, there are people who devote themselves to stirring up even more drama than already exists, instead of promoting the scene or bringing up interesting topics. The back-and-forth banter feeds the algorithms, brings in more followers, and so on, but the reality is that it adds nothing of value.
Arrogance—which I believe is the opposite of humility—has become commonplace these days, and you see it constantly, especially in the rock and metal scenes, where, in one way or another, you’re always being watched and analyzed. It’s often inevitable to strike a balance so that success doesn’t go to your head or lead you to think you’re better than others.
Nor am I a fan of false humility, which gives rise to empty rhetoric that serves no purpose and is constantly contradicted by the facts. There are plenty of examples.
As human beings, we always tend to “put on airs” in front of those we consider inferior to us, and it’s a common flaw—which makes sense, considering that, after all, we’re human and fallible. A good remedy, as an old friend of mine always says, is to never forget where you came from. Keeping our past in mind is a good investment for the future.
In heavy metal, as in life itself, no one is better than anyone else. Yes, we respect people’s careers and journeys, but we need to start understanding that the scene is built by all of us together, and greatness has nothing to do with how many albums you sell, how many people you draw, or the accolades you’ve earned. It’s about something else entirely.
We’re all part of the same battle, in the same ranks of combat. If anyone thinks they’re better than someone else, they’re in the wrong place. It’s that simple. Unity is strength, and that’s not just a cliché. It’s about knowing and choosing which side you’re going to be on. Nothing more, nothing less.
We’re kicking off July, a new month in which we’ll continue to promote the so-called “White Metal” scene—underground like no other—as well as the national metal scene, just as we set out to do from the very beginning. There’s plenty of material to publish and share, music to discover and enjoy, new projects and bands, plus others who are still in the fight. Naturally, we hope to feature new interviews, and we’ll continue to revisit old archival material. We don’t set out to position ourselves where it suits us best or where it’s most convenient, which is why we don’t go out of our way to compete over who has the best content. We simply convey what we feel, share what resonates with us, and above all, strive to be a platform for what isn’t covered by any mainstream media—all done in the spirit of the old school and on a non-profit basis. Nothing more, nothing less.
We’ve certainly chosen the hardest path. We don’t spend our time clowning around on social media. We don’t want to be “metal influencers.” We’re not interested in that, nor is it our goal. Our focus lies elsewhere…
And here we leave what is almost a declaration, a legacy, and a path to follow. V8 captured it perfectly in his lyrics… “After we unite, we can think about taking the final step and expelling the evil he has sown from our minds. I’ll be the first to take that triumphant step and destroy the barriers that hinder my thinking.”
Our faith is in God; our passion is Heavy Metal. Let’s keep fighting—the battle is intense, but the most important thing is that we’re still standing. Sometimes we’re almost falling, but we’re always standing and moving forward—never backward!!!!
Long live Heavy Metal and the warriors who keep the scene alive!!! See you next month….
